Is Armmie Hammer named after baking soda by accident, or on purpose?

Because it seems unbelievable that it was an accident, but even more incredible if it was on purpose.

The original one, the guy born in the 1890's, was named after the Russian revolutionary symbol. His father was a leader of the American Socialist Party and felt very strongly about communism.
