I've meant to but haven't yet gotten around to reading The Girl with All the Gifts, but there is already a film adaptation with an ace cast (including Glenn Close, Paddy Considine, and Gemma Arterton) -- it's premiering at Toronto Film Festival next week. The trailer looks super intense (and spoilery! for someone who only had vague notions of the Wrong Things in its setting).
Yes, I saw that, and the actress they've cast as the lead is magnetic. I've been mulling the implications of race-swapping Melanie and Ms. Justineau, though.
It makes Ms. Justineau seem more like a Nice White Lady, and makes the dehumanization of Melanie more disturbing, I think.
