I completely agree with you. Such a huge chunk of active LJ users are in fandom, though.
I'm rooting for Scribblit.com, where I'm a beta tester, if we move to a system that keeps Brad's code. We're writing our own ToS and making coding suggestions directly. It's pretty awesome.
InsaneJournal and JournalFen are my next two choices, in that order, though it looks like I might wind up on GJ due to sheer numbers. All three of them are run by people that LJ users are cool with, and all of the owners have made statements saying that they will refuse to sell and that nothing will ever be removed without warning. JF and SI are advertising free, too. IJ is the only one that has open membership right now, though you can apply for a JF here.
I hate WordPress. It confuses the hell out of me, and I don't have enough patience this week to figure it out.
I think if I were to keep blogging/journaling, it would HAVE to be on a site that uses the LJ code, simply because I've become so accustomed to it and what it can do that moving to another platform would feel claustrophobic and frustrating.
Of course, the majority of my friends are barely motivated enough to post on LJ, so it's doubtful they would migrate (they're that largely-apathetic group I mentioned in my previous comment :P)
WordPress is fail. It must tax the SQL databases it uses, because WP sites are the first to fall to the Digg effect, every time.
Not yet. I'll let you know when I do! It's probably going to be Scribblit, though what I might end up doing is using JF for fandom stuff and Scribblit for everything else.
