Writing on the iPad: me and my apps

Mar 06, 2012 08:19

This post owes a huge debt of thanks to Rob Donoghue in particular and various others for comments and suggestions in recent months.

The key to successful writing on the iPad, I find, is to know what it is you need, and what you're comfortable with. As a gaming writer and occasional fictioneer, I work with simple formatting - my text doesn't get ( Read more... )

But only a click away!
I'm pretty sure this isn't what Sir Tim Berners-Lee had in mind, and I really don't care.

Interesting write-up on your tools, Bruce. Thanks.

You're welcome!

And I'd argue that cat pictures are a vital element in the overall scholarly process.

I have knowledge of the Pages situation, which means I'm not really allowed to say anything. I hope to tell you about it someday.

I'll be interested, when and if. I'm not mad, since I have viable alternatives, just bemused, disappointed, and hoping for a fix.

As someone who uses Pages with a PC, transfering Pages files to a PC aren't much better. (I also find it very frustrating to talk to people who think the Pages method is perfectly intuitive and smooth because they never experienced old Palm Hotsyncing) I touch up on my desktop but 99 times out of 100 any desktop tweaking and revision is done to a completed file so I don't use a lot of back and forth. Thus, I just email the file to myself because for a few reasons cloud-based storage has yet to successfully endear itself to me.

I'm intrigued by the idea of Markdown, though. That's not a method I'm familiar with but I'm really liking the sound of it.

I've commented in the past that Dropbox reminds me of Palm syncing and that's part of why I like it. :) And yeah, for occasions when I'm purely doing touch-up, Pages and Numbers are just fine.

There are a lot of Markdown-enabled editors these days. I you try some out, report back, would you?

Will do. And now you have me seriously considering giving Dropbox a try.
