I'm having one of those days where the major things I wanted to accomplish are turning to shit.

Started this morning. Met with designerotter and madisonbear for a bike ride through the Arboretum and down the Capital City Trail. Got about 2/3 of the way through the Arboretum, when we saw the road was barricaded to protect a section that had been resurfaced. To ( Read more... )

I'm sorry that happened. I don't see that you did anything wrong. You made plans and you wanted to complete them with your friends. Feel free to be who you are. It's pretty wonderful!

HUGS!

Thank you, Neil. Your words of encouragement touch me deeply.

Unfortunately, I'm not feeling very wonderful.

I'm still trying to sort all this out, and in my weary state, it seems that either I can't please everyone, and that whatever decision I make, it isn't good enough.

Pleasing myself seems selfish, pleasing my friends seems to lead to displeasing my partner, and my partner SEEMS impossible to please. The most I seem to be able to do is minimize the damage. This time, I couldn't even do that.

It WAS a good ride, though.

I don't know Nap at all. However, I personally don't respond well to critical people, so I can't imagine a dynamic where anyone would dictate my actions. Perhaps, that's why I remain single ( ... )

You've nailed a number of points. I've never thought of Napoleon as the jealous type, but at the same time, he's never been favorably impressed with anyone to whom I've introduced him. He's usually dismissive, or stiffly polite. It would be interesting to see how he'd react to you, considering your impressive stage/performance resume ( ... )

First off, Thank you for a wonderful adventure ... you were smart and gracious, and I'm so glad we could all share this time together.
Secondly, pay attention to Neils' comment - his outside perspective is objective, and by golly he's got his priorities right.
Thirdly, I understand Nap's point of view, but it's simply an alternative viewpoint. You made the decision you wanted and he can get over it. You even checked one more time before taking off with the car to be sure he wouldn't panic at seeing it gone.

As to that garage door ...commendable and no doubt necessary project, but it's just a door; this is early autumn and there'll be more days when the painting task can be addressed. If you'd rather attend church tomorrow morning, do it. Trust me, the paint job will be improved after a tete a tete with the Almighty over at His/Her house.
Big Hugs!

I elected to stay home Sunday, and got an early start on the door. Did a third coat that afternoon, which exhausted the can of paint. The door actually looked better after I had hosed it down and before I painted it. The coverage over the worn areas is next to non-existant, and it looks dirty around the perimeter.

I'm far from a pro, but I think we have only two options: Throw more white paint at it, or go with a darker color.

Take a look at the directions on the paint can - sometimes they indicate a "cure" time, which may be necessary before attempting another coat.
If you do aim for another coat, check with the paint dealer as to which paint brand/formula would give best covereage ... and buy a pint to test with ... also a small-size roller so you can try it along the edges and avoid the brush strokes. And while you're at it, grab some paint chip samples: there's an amazing number of "whites" available these days.

I had waited the prescribed 4 hours between coats, so that wasn't an issue, and before settling on the paint, we had looked at the various whites and finishes. I even made sure the roller I used was for smooth surfaces.

Either my surface preparation wasn't sufficient, my painting technique sucks, or the paint itself wasn't up to the job.

I can't add much more to what Neil and designerotter have already said, but I just wanted to say that I completely understand what you've gone through and that I'm sorry you've had a really shitty day. Hopefully, today will be much better. *hugs*

Each day brings new opportunities.

Thanks for the hugs. One can never have too many.

My partner would have congratulated me for renting a bike should mine malfunction! Good for you!

Either we're equally insane, or Nap's the odd one out.

I appreciate the support.

I thought renting a bike was a good idea, why spoil the day when there is an affordable option to continue readily available?

Even though my hubs and I own a car, we still rent one on occasion. A convertible for a top down country drive. Doesn't sound silly to me to rent when what you have isn't what you want/need for the moment.
