...holding on to one another's hands
C1
I dared a peek at the blonde sitting next to me on the near empty bus. She was staring blankly out of the window, and her right hand was clenched tightly into a fist. So tight that her knuckles had turned white.
"You sure you want to do this?" I asked cautiously, for the tenth time since the bus had set off.
Her head spun quickly to face me, her signature cheeky smile in place. Just the sight of it made me sigh with relief.
"Course I'm sure, I mean I'm nervous, of course, but I wouldn't change any of it for the world" she replied, and grabbed my hand in hers. "Me and you are forever, and I'm not letting anybody stop that" she whispered to me, her eyes smouldering with love.
I beamed, I couldn't help it when she got all emotional with me. I felt a tear gathering in the corner of my eye and rubbed it away with my free hand.
"I love you so much" I mumbled, my eyes locked onto her blues.
She winked saucily and nodded at the single sleeping bag we had managed to find, I eyed it warily, noting how small it was and tensing as she leaned towards me. "Guess you'll have to be exceptionally good to resist now" she breathed in my ear before leaning back and eyeing my body hungrily.
I gulped noisily and cleared my head of all mental images. "We'll see" I mumbled, but even I wasn't convinced by my voice.
She wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me impossibly closer to her.
"Indeed we shall Webster" she sang happily.
I twisted my head round to glare at her. "You're so bloody mean" I muttered, but still didn't shift from her embrace. She smirked and turned back round to look at the bright lights of the train station that we were approaching up ahead.
She picked up her bag from the seat in front and nudged my shoulder to get me moving. "Now or never Soph" she whispered. "It's totally your choice."
I thought about our other options and jumped up quickly, grabbing my slightly smaller bag and made my way to the entrance of the bus and stepped into the night.
Darkness had settled already and I shivered in the cold breeze. Sian quickly shrugged her coat off and wrapped it around my shoulders. I threw her a thankful smile, noticing that she was now only wearing a thin cardigan.
"Come on, let's go inside before we freeze to death" I said, tugging on her arm and leading her into the brightly lit terminal. Speakers blared different destinations and we walked hand in hand to the nearest board. My eyes raked our options quickly, and then I turned to see Sian doing the same.
"Anywhere in particular?" I asked.
She pointed to a place called Hebden Bridge, an hour away from us. Confusion filled me as I turned to her with a questioning look in my eye. I was expecting London or another big city. I said so and she shook her head.
"We'll be safer there" she said confidently. "It's supposed to be Britain's 'Lesbian Capital'." She turned her head and gave me a sheepish look.
I laughed properly for the first time in days and pulled her into a hug. "Where ever you go, I'll follow" I replied happily and marched off to purchase two tickets.
