It's done.
(It'll also be complete once my DMV Form DL389 shows up in the mail.)
But I have passed my motorcycle riding test and as of this morning my written test. Renewed my Class C while I was at it.
Go me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
knaveofhearts started it by mentioning that he waanted to get his M1 along with his license renewal. I thought to myself that my renewal was also due in a few months, and I've always wanted to do it, but thingz (poverty, pregnancy, kids, time, poverty) got in the way. Well, I still have kids and, sadly, poverty is back, but I am not pregnant and I do have more time than I did in those terrific .com days. On balance, excuse time was over.
Jim upped the ante BIG time by bringing riding back into his life after a hiatus of a few years.
wendelina2 announced her intentions,
lrc spoke of riding in his LJ,
ca_snowflake made appropriate noises of interest, and some of my other friends mocked me. My family was horrified.
The stage was set.
To do the riding portion of the test I took the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course. Upon successful completion of the course, they administer the DMV's test. If you pass that, you get a waiver from taking the test at the DMV. That sounded like a good idea, being as how I'd never been on a bike before, and being as how I was told that taking the test on a small bike was a Really Good Idea.
I highly recommend the course, and not just as a way to ace the riding test. First off, there's no ace about it. Twelve of us started out on the range; seven of us earned our waivers. No, you get much more out of it. It's kind of like basic operations/drivers ed combined with a baby performance school. You learn how to handle potentially hazardous situations because they create those situations for you on a closed range and you get to do them on _their_ bikes, after their instruction, and with them there to pick up the pieces as necessary. There was more than one dropped bike, but there were no injuries.

See you out there :)
