Good for your son!

My own silent (literally) protest is to recite the Pledge as I learned it, leaving out "under God". I believe the offending phrase was added in 1953.

Very good.

Why is this friendslocked? I was going to point some friends to it.

Habit. I have not identified the kid to people who DON'T know us, so it's unlocked now.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Followed lrc's link to this.
I stand an applaud your son. Good for him. I am sorry his teacher is a person that is affected so negatively by this but that is her problem and her issue. He is doing things in a good way.

Just leaving this note because I thought you might like to know some random stranger stopped by and thought good thoughts towards your son and his personal convictions.

Well, from some random stranger to another (but we DO have LRC in common), thank you for your kind words.

There was no drama Friday, so let's hope it continues in this vein. However, I remain concerned for his grade, for reasons laid out a little further down.

Wow! He's really grown now, isn't he. It's great that he is taking a stand (or rather a seat) for what he does believes (or is that for what he doesn't believe).

I'm being silly, but I do really respect what he is doing. Here's hoping the other teachers, the other students and the dean continue to back him against this narrow-minded teacher.

(By the way, I'm a stand up and do the pledge sort of lady, but I respect any other person's right not to do the same.)

Deep thoughts run silent.

Sounds like he has his ducks in a row and can stick to his position.

And they still recite the pledge of allegiance in High School???

In Michigan we stopped after grade school.

Good for him, and good for all the *other* teachers and the dean, who not only know the law, but are willing to follow it.

So this icon is for all of them.
