Prompt 'Mistaken for someone else', at Mundane Events Bingo
A/N I have to say I’ve been using the Mundane prompts as extra inspiration mainly. But this just sort of happened, and I don’t have a Weirdly Angsty Interpretations of Mundane Prompts challenge handy, so... I suspect this is Rulesverse - a little backstory to the ending of
One for the Team.
It’s extremely confusing, having two past lives. Stephen finds it almost impossible to keep them straight, and he lived them. Well, one of them. Except later, when it was the other one.
You see? It’s complex. Hard to describe.
“Hey! It’s that guy! The guy that took Alice!”
The moment she’s said it, the woman on the bus stops dead. Looks confused.

Stephen shouldn’t know why. Connor does.
She shouldn’t remember Alice being abducted. Alice should have been wiped from history, or else her death attributed to hit and run, random shooting, illness, whatever Vail planted in her timeline.
But since the Orlon Window shattered, parts of the obliterated past have begun to leak out. Not all of it, not all at once. Not unless you’re Stephen. (Connor. Whoever.) Or Wesley, or Illyria. Who both know a thing or two about dual identities.
It’s why he came here. To see Angel (not Dad, not really), sure. To fight evil, of course. But also to be among the freaks.
Stephen was raised normal, happy, well-adjusted. It’s left Connor undefended. Memories of Quortoth keep him awake in shaking horror at the forsaken child he was.
The child he killed in turn keeps him awake. Children. His daughter, the monstrous entity who tricked herself into incarnation. And the nameless blonde girl whose throat they cut to bring her forth.
Except, it turns out, she was called Alice, and someone saw him take her.

But she’s confused, has lost the memory fragment. He smiles, and says, “I’m from out of town.” She shakes her head. He’s not the guy she thought. Must have been mistaken.
Connor wishes she was.
