This was sent to me by one of my sorority sisters. It was written by a classmate of hers. This happened to the girl last night. i took out all names to protect them.  It is so scary.

"This morning at 2AM some person climbed my wall, cut my screen, opened my window, and grabbed my blinds attempting to get into my room. I happened to be awake and ( Read more... )

yeah what part of the fort was it?

if you are really worried about it, put something that makes noise on your window (a jingle bell or something) that way it will alert you if someone is messing with your window.

Out of curiousity...do you mean that you know the girl this happened to personally? or just through a sorority sister's friend. the reason i ask is because ive heard stories so similar to this, extremely extremely similar through emails, and blogs and stuff like that and its always a "friend of a friend of a friend." i'm not meaning to say that this is any way not serious, this kind of thing is a very serious and scary issue and you are definitely right, we, and reall i mean girls specifically, (although that kind of makes it sound like i'm a girl, oh well though) should take more precaution for these types of things. im just wondering if the story is true, or if its just a story to make people more aware to be safe at night. either way, these types of things are awful, just plain awful. can't imagine the type of person that would do a thing like that.

This is just the latest of about 15 incidents that have happened in the last month and a half in Fort Sanders. I really believe this because a girl I work with told me the exact same story- and she is in this girl's sorority.
And the police found fingerprints and footprints. And why would someone make up a story this horrible?

I dont know why someone would. i think a lot of it is for the same reason you posted it, just to remind girls to use extra safety measures. the part of the story that is most similar to all those ive heard in the past is the "my boyfriend usually stays over, but this was the one night he didnt." and i dont know if its actually people making the story up, but you know how rumors get, starts from something true, then somehow the story gets turned into soemthing else. all i know is i just seem to hear something like this every so often, thats i was wondering.

by the by....its still a very horrible thing to even think about happening. whether the story is made up or true (which if you say its true, i believe you) it definitely holds value because the sad reality is that these things do happen.

I have a friend, a backwoods East TN boy, who would be more than willing to give you his "home invasion" shotgun.

But a stick in the window is a really good idea. Make sure it goes the full length of the window, though, and is pretty thick. I'd suggest keeping Mace on you at all times, easily accessible.

And if your apartment main door doesn't have a dead bolt, force your landlord to put one on. If he refuses, give me a call and I'll come to do it.

And you could always find a sign (and put it in the window) that says something to the effect of "this house protected by Smith & Wesson." People are far more willing to leave you be if they think they could wind up shot.
