I’d been using the Wirecutter-recommended Accell Home or Away travel surge protector for travel until recently. It’s really good, but it only has 2 USB ports and when I started traveling with an external battery, that was too few. One USB port for my phone, one for my tablet, and none for my battery? Sad. I'm a big fan of the Anker multi-chargers. I have an older 5 port that's my current travel charger, and a pair of the 6 port units as my home chargers (bedroom and living room). I think I'm going to swap the 5 port into the living room (since I usually only have 2-3 things going there at any given time) and make the 6 the travel unit so I have spare ports for batteries and guests. :-)

I just bought one of those too!

I have a retina Macbook somewhere in a shipping container in China with my address on it, so I decided to try it as the One Charger To Rule Them All (and in the darkness bind them) for phone, tablet, booster battery, and USB-C charging laptop while on the road.

Got a USB voltmeter/ammeter, so I'll be able to report later on whether it charges the MacBook properly -- the MacBook charger is rated at 29 watts.

I am very curious to hear if it charges the MacBook. It might. (One of my co-workers just got the MacBook; very very pretty and if I was in the laptop market I'd be giving in.)

Because Apple only launched it in the USA on the first day, mine is still somewhere in a shipping container in China. Should get it next Monday at the latest -- maybe even later this week -- at which point expect me to drivel on possessively about it. SHINY!
