Diagnosis

After a CT scan the doctors have diagnosed David with Pancreatitis.

Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas secretes digestive enzymes. These enzymes help digest fats, proteins, and carbohydrates in food. The pancreas also releases the hormones insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream. These hormones help the body use the glucose it takes from food for energy.

Normally, digestive enzymes do not become active until they reach the small intestine, where they begin digesting food. But if these enzymes become active inside the pancreas, they start "digesting" the pancreas itself.

David is nil by mouth until further notice to stop the pancreas working those enzymes and stuff. Or that's how I understand it anyway ... anybody with better knowledge please feel free to correct me.

So he's sat in a stuffy, too warm hospital ward, not allowed to eat or drink with a drip keeping him hydrated. He's still in a lot of pain at the moment, very sore , feeling pretty down and playing a waiting game to see if he improves.

I'm printing off all messages / emails and showing them to him. Keep them coming :o)
