Generally I have to 'fight' with David to try and convince him that GP's and hospitals are good things. Today I'm not so convinced ( Read more... )

next time you are there - note the name of the ward manager, also, ask for the matrons details (if they have one). the patients charter is very hot on ensuring that treatment standards improve - it might be worth writing to the matron / ward manager if communication remains poor. overall, he is still better off in hospital in order for all necessary tests to be carried out, it is a serious condition afterall. pancreatic failure could lead to diabetes among other complications if he discharges himself. for a condition that is normally treated very successfully its not worth the risk. he may have taken a down turn just by virtue of the fact that he now knows how ill he has been and still is at present; if he is normally an active and busy man, accepting illness and being bed bound can be a big psychological blow. also if the cause is as yet unidentified - ie if it is viral in origin - that may also account for a change in his condition. hope that helps hun x

I have yet to find any comfort in the doctors in the UK. I know that offends people, but I just do not see that they are very helpful. It's that or they have no idea what they are doing. I hope David gets better soon :(

I have a similar distrust of GPs, mainly through the professional dealings that I have with them. Had been refraining from saying anything though, as in situations like this all you can do is trust that you're in the best place.

I'm guessing he can't be at home to regulate water intake because he'd have to do that orally, which might still affect the pancreas (pure guesswork though).

Any news on how long hospitalisation might last ?

It can last from a couple of days to weeks/months! Oh joy :s

Neither of us are happy bunnies at the moment.

i can understand his and your frustration at the circumstances in the hospital, but dont let david go home until he is well, pancreatitis can get very serious and if he discharges himself without the consent of doctors he will enevitably end straight back in and have to go through a&e all over again

discuss your complaints with the staff and doctors, and if it doesnt improve ask for a complaints form and they will start taking you a bit more seriously.

if there is anything i can do for either of you, just let me know, you know how to get in touch if you want to talk or anything :)

Going home wasn't really an option. It was more about venting my frustration out when I got home.

Seeing him take a turn for the worse and looking so ill made me rather upset.

Today has been a better day (hopefully will have time to do an update later on tonight).
