Just off the top of my head there is a pretty good book called The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. Its about perhaps a little bit earlier than you were thinking but it has a pretty heavy female slant on the way it tells the story. As for non-fiction type books, A History of the Jewish People by Ben Sasson offers a very detail oriented overview of several thousand years of history. Not entirely sure what sort of book you are looking for though, likely much better sources out there for your needs but both those books have good bibliographies that might be a decent place to start ( ... )
