Jailbreak?

I'm considering getting an iPhone and then using it as a tethered modem with my laptop, does anyone have experience with either part of this? Is it possible to tether your iPhone without jailbreaking? Is jailbreaking easily reversible?

1) It's impossible to do with a vanilla iphone.
2) There are a million and one ways to do it with a jailbroken iphone.
3) You should be able to unjailbreak your iphone by "restoring" it from itunes, thus setting it back to factory default setting.
4) you're not "allowed" to do what you want to do. If AT&T catches you, they reserve the right to charge you bunches of money.
5) AT&T is "looking into" selling a package that allows tethering for extra money.
6) I've not personally tried any of this. I just know stuff.
