[Bryn flips the video function on with her entry, and it's aimed at her excited, smiling face before turning it toward the falling snow outside. Then it turns back to Bryn]
It's snowing outside, everyone! Isn't that exciting?
[She's just going to go find some clothes to wear outside, and then she's off to play in the snow! Feel free to respond

It is the most exciting. Snow at this time of year? This is wicked awesome!

No trouble at all! I used to do it for myself back home, and for friends when they needed it. It's more fun skating with other people.
Reply
I'm glad then, because I'd really like to try. Shall we?
[She tilts her head to the side, off toward the direction of the lake.]
Reply
You'll love it. I've been skating for probably as long as I've been walking, and it's loads of fun.

[Bryn walks by his side, excited enough at the prospect of ice-skating to be less nervous than she might be around a new (and she'll admit privately, attractive) acquaintance.]

[He's thrilled at getting to show someone how to skate again. It's been awhile, since he'd pretty much already taught anyone who was interested back at the mansion.]

[She chuckled a bit to herself.]
So have you always had this ability of yours? To make things out of ice?
Reply
[He grins at her, a bit impish.]
It feels like it sometimes, but I haven't really always had it. It kicked in when I was twelve.

[She grins back, then tilts her head to the side when he mentions he didn't grow up with his ability.]
Really? Did you know it would happen?
[Because hi, relevant to her interests. She still has no idea about where her gift came from.]
Reply
I'll do my best to keep both of our balance.
[At her question, he shakes his head.]
I had no idea. It was a pretty huge shock when I started freezing things.
Reply
Would you mind if I asked you more questions about it? I have an ability of my own and I'm not quite sure how it came about so...I suppose you could say I'm researching?
[She gives him a hopeful expression. Please don't mind, pretty please?]
Reply
You do? Cool! And no, I don't mind questions at all! Fire away.
Reply
I do, but before that...how does...what do you know about your ability? Do you know where it came from r it's nature? I mean, is it magic or something genetic?
[She pauses a beat.]
I mean, you are human, yes?
Reply
Yup, I'm human. In my world, it's genetics. It's a mutation, it comes from having what they call the X-gene. Like having blue eyes is technically a mutation, I guess. But yeah, it's what gives people special abilities. And everyone's different, depending on how the mutation affects their genes.
Some people can read thoughts, or move things with their mind, or control fire, or shape shift. Usually people don't know they have an ability until much later in their life, when it manifests suddenly.
Reply
Is there any way to test for this X-gene? To see if one possesses it? Or is there a sign of whether or not one might have it specifically?
You see, I don't know where my ability came from. I never had the chance to figure it out.
[That should be enough to explain part of why she's asking to know more.]
Reply
[They'd managed to not only locate it, but figure out a way to suppress it, actually. But Bobby's still a bit bitter about everything that it had caused, so he doesn't mention that.
There'd also been Cerebro, which could tell who was a mutant and who wasn't. But that's not possible anymore, so he doesn't mention it, either.
But Bryn's comment does explain it, and he nods in understanding.]
It was like that for people in my world, too, before people with abilities started being more known. And even now, in places that haven't heard of mutants. They just - suddenly have powers, and they don't know why.
So it's possible you could be one? But I don't know for sure. I'm sorry.
