[008] Heartfelt Thanks

[Oh hi, Keep. It's Bryn, on video, and she's dressed in some new clothes. They're not the usual second-hand items provided in the clothier's tower, and really not in a style she recognizes at all, but rather some from the bureau that appeared in her room some days ago. Bryn doesn't care how baggy they are because oh gosh, there were pants among ( Read more... )

[Pause.]

Orchard?

Yes? The trees behind the keep? I imagine they'll bear fruit sometime once the winter has passed again...

And... you want to do... what with these trees?

Tend to them? Prune them when they need it or...gather up the fallen leaves to keep the area clear?

[She doesn't know much about orchards okay, but people tend to them, don't they? And pick fruit so that it doesn't fall on the ground?]

Maybe I'd better think of something else...

But... they are trees. Why do they need to be... looked after?

Everything living needs some level of care. There's survival and then there's flourishing.

[Do you see the difference?]

[APPARENTLY NOT.]

[How can she put this in a way to make him understand?]

Plants are...well...they can manage on their own. And that may put them at sixty to eighty percent of what they could be. But with care and attention they could reach 100%. It would be helping them to reach their optimal potential.

[Does that smell like bullshit? Because it is. Sort of. Bryn doesn't know much about plants but surely her parents and thousands of people didn't garden for nothing.]

... And why is that necessary? Plants are not warriors. They are not... comrades.

They are of a sort. The orchards provide fruit which is food, which is energy that sustains us.

[Thank you biology class.]

You want me to help you make your fuel?

Well it would be for everyone, but yes. It would be something to occupy us.

... Guess that makes sense.

It's simply an idea. If you have a better one I'd be happy to hear it.

[He grumbles out something before speaking a little louder.]

No. I have no better idea.
