Ouch, that's not an easy thing for anyone to realize for the first time, no matter how old they are. I guess you'll just have to tell her that there are good folks and bad folks in every group, and that includes every religion. Plenty of people will twist ANY set of beliefs (whether religious, political, philosophical, or otherwise) to serve their purposes and justify their hate. It's an ugly truth, but she had to learn it eventually

I don't think I've ever heard it put quite this way before. It's succinct and accurate.

I don't have any real advice to offer. (Other than some folks use the bible as an excuse to hate.)

But maybe she can get some answers from "No Longer Qivering." It's a website/blog for women recovering from spiritual abuse. I had no idea such a thing existed until I went to that website. (There are also some guys there as well.)
