Ok, so we have snow, and then lots of rain, which is saturating the snow, but not melting it. The streets surrounring the house are rapidly deepening (some under greater than a foot of water at this point) and the questions is

Here is another answer to the outdated question, lest it come up again. I would suggest leaving the bumpy snow, but throwing a copious amount of salt/sand/litter over it before it freezes hard.
Wow, was I drunk when I wrote that? Don;t think so, but geez.
Tried to shovel, bit it was too late. Frozen solid. I got one sidewalk in but the rest was compressed by commuters. stairs fully salted, but not enough salt for the whole sidewalk.
