Seriously, why is she our protagonist?--I really wonder that about a lot of the cult members tbh. I can root for Mallory and think she's a good kid, while still calling her out on stupid shit she pulls. I can root for Claudia and find she's a good kid at least 3/4 of the time. And I can root for Shannon because I think they underused her enough that they couldn't fuck her character up. And that's about it. They fucked the others up so badly that it's impossible to root for. Take the Tess book, am I supposed to be supporting Stacey? 'Yeah, you make over that girl so she's acceptable to the rest of the school. Poor Stacey, she tries so hard and that bitch Tess is making things harder by refusing her help!" No. I can't sit over there and think that

I didn't watch much TV as a teen, but that was also because a lot of the shows on TV weren't for me. I watched a lot of the things my parents watched, though.
I don't get why AMM thinks TV = evil. I'd say it was her age, but she's my parents' generation and they watched plenty of TV (besides I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver, which seem to be among her exceptions.) Maybe she was raised in a more conservative family? (Not necessarily conservative in the political sense, just in terms of their behavior.) Maybe she just wanted to promote "good" habits?
I swear to glob I can NEVER get over what a repugnant person Dawn is. In EVERY book she's horrible! I share the same question on how she can be a protagonist. She's so mean and judgmental! She's never happy about anything unless she's putting someone down. EVERYTHING offends her even when they have zero impact on her. She's horrible! And is it just me or did she totally steal Sunny's personality when she moved to the 'brook? Only she added a healthy dose of bitch sauce to the mix. I guess she counts that as being an individual.
the realtor tells Dawn that the new owners have a little girl about her age.
Why is the agent talking to the child of people she doesn't know?
to Dawn's "horror"
We're supposed to believe Dawn values individualism when she does this?
Dawn declares the plant Sunny's mom hands her "funny-looking"
My mind goes to weed. :D
They unpack the rest of Sunny's stuff and Dawn internally snarks her toys, which are mostly wooden.
Wood toys rock.
She's upset that people are staring, which is yet another example of how not laid-back she is.
As a native of California, I can tell you with certainty that people in long dresses wouldn't draw this much attention. I know because I WAS THAT PERSON IN LONG PRAIRIE DRESSES.
Betsy and Sharon leave them off at the toy store and say they will be back in 20 minutes, which doesn't seem all that responsible.
That's a CPS call right there.
Dawn decides she likes them after all
Only after they were useful to her. What a little bitch.
One thing I wonder about Dawn. She's a horrible, smug, and just a horrible person. I can't imagine young Dawn being able to hide how much she doesn't like Sunny or her parents or what weird little freaks she thinks they are. Wouldn't it be written all over her face? I can't imagine Dawn would be any good at hiding what she's thinking. Why anyone would want to be friends with her. There's nothing likable about her.
