Claudia and the Genius of Elm Street! Part The End!

Greeting, my lovelies! Sorry this ran a little late. What happened was I thought my anti-virus ran out so I wasn't risking going on the internet till I could pay for it. But when I checked it today everything was fine so, I felt like a fool. But I spent that time well (killing K Ron and Karen on Sims) but I'm still glad to be back snarking. And you ( Read more... )

Thank you! Yeah, I don't really understand why the Kishis are so against Nancy Drew. It's not like Claudia doesn't read books at all and just reads gossip magazines or something. And even for the time, I wouldn't think Nancy Drew of all things was particularly trashy. Aren't most of them from like the 50s and 60s? She wasn't reading Goosebumps for crying out loud. When I was a kid I considered Nancy Drew to be very dry classics. Maybe not in the same ballpark as like, Shakespeare but it's not like they were garbage. And when I was Claudia's age, I certainly wasn't reading classics. I think the only classics books I'd read at that age were White Fang and Call of the Wild. Mainly at that age I'd started reading Stephen King. With a few kids books peppered in for variety ( ... )

I can see the Kishis wanting Claudia to read above a kindergarten level but I also think they push her a little hard. - I don’t think they do, mostly because they’re always ‘threatening’ to make Claudia drop her art classes and baby-sitting club if her grades don’t improve, and even though she sucks academically from the first book to the last, her parents never actually make her stop her extracurricular activities. They even allow her extra art classes and to take fancy trips, even though I think most parents would say those things are a waste of good studying time and that they don’t want to reward her for her laziness. Maybe the Kishis thought taking the things Claudia loves away from her would result in another bout of depression and let her stay in them as motivation, but I wouldn’t ... maybe one art class, but not multiple art classes and a time-consuming baby-sitting club. The one thing I don’t think is fair is the Kishi parents putting all the blame on Claudia for her bad grades; yeah, she IS a lazy, uncaring student and at ( ... )

Claudia is on her way with the Wilders to a tv station for Rosie's recording on Uncle Dandy's Star Machine.

Who brings a babysitter for something like this?

Rosie explains that the have a light when it's on.

Not correct. All the cameras are rolling, and someone in the control room decides which camera to cut to. There are videos on YouTube about this. The light on a camera really doesn't mean much. The control room doesn't know what each camera sees if they aren't rolling.

Most of them just boo. Which is really shitty seeing as the other grades cheered their representative.

This happened to me in fifth grade. For the last time. It happened before that, but my mother was there and yelled at the principal for doing nothing and pulled me out of school. My mom was decent once upon a time.

Moving on to something I'd rather think about.

Claudia and Mary Anne comfort her, telling her people can be mean to others who are different.

Lik the BSC treats everyone. Ashley comes to mind.

Rosie asks if her parents don't ( ... )

Claudia is an actual good person for a change and wants to go to it to
cheer Rosie on because those classmates were rude to her.

That's really nice of her

As they leave Rosie, some girls make fun of her because she's a brain. Poor
Rosie. I wonder if she even has any friends.

Poor kid

I love when Ann remembers how to write her own characters and makes Mary
Anne nice.

So do I. These were the things we wanted to see Ann.

This always bugged me, not because his ego, but because I would think he'd know if Rosie was working on a painting. I mean, wouldn't he at least notice if she'd bought a canvas? Or have bought the canvas himself? Jesus, Ann. I was 11 when I caught that one.

Yeah, that makes zero sense.
