I upgraded to Windows 7 last week; I was quite impressed with Easy Transfer, included since (I guess) Windows Vista, and how it handled moving files and settings from XP. It failed to transfer settings for
Pidgin,
Thunderbird, and
PuTTY, but copying setting folders manually for Thunderbird and Pidgin was not painful, and replicating the few custom

(Baldur's Gate 2 is still the pinnacle of role-playing combat systems, IMNSHO.)
I rather wish I'd picked up Demon's Souls, as it looks pleasantly challenging.

Morrowind had an XBOX release IIRC but it was reportedly difficult to play since it wasn't console optimized. Oblivion is console-optimized, which shows in the GIGANTIC inventory icons and things like that.
Mass Effect similarly was console-first, though I think it handled its roots more skillfully. I also found it more interesting than Dragon Age, even though the characters are much less well-developed. I echo the comment above about DA's combat being kinda meh.

Your kid gets a special case, he probably wasn't up to playing Diablo and StarCraft when they came out. :-)
