He can still recall the exact look of surprise on her face when she had stepped into her school tent to find him reading to the children. It was his ability to be more than she expected which had sparked their courtship and eventual marriage.
Tom can picture the shock on Laura's face now, except instead of turning into patient interest, he's damn sure she'll just hate him.
"Adama is dead."

He can't say he was never jealous or suspicious of their friendship, but it had been easy to remind himself that if Laura ever took exception to him, it was because of her own reasons and not what someone else put in her ear. It was certainly a kick to write, thank you so much for such a fascinating prompt!
I got a bit interested in the 'verse too, but of course my mind immediately went to 'how did Bill react?' but that's just the a/r shipper in me refusing to let go.
Laura does seems to be the type who prefers a more background role, or at least just a less noticeable one, so she does fit into that scenario rather well.
I love this universe! Tom reading to little kids would certainly catch her attention :) I love that Tom gets to stay president - the tension between him and Bill alone. That last line is so very like Tom Zarek.
Tom staying president and Bill having to work with him is something I wish was explored way more in fanfic! It is such a fun concept.
Yes, the last line.. What I love about it so much is that I'm sure Laura would be having the same thought were their positiions reversed. She can be so pragmatic and generally nothing gets between Tom and his cause..
