Sam was throwing his towel and pyramid ball into a bag when Dee approached him. Her face was tight.
“What’s up, Dee?” Sam zipped the bag and turned.
“Hey, Sam. Wanted to talk to you about something.” Dee looked around the room and paused. “So, I have this crazy idea.” The next words got stuck in her throat and she swallowed hard.
“Hey, it’s cool. I love crazy ideas.” Sam smiled and Dee visibly relaxed.
“Okay.” She took a deep breath. “I want to get all four of us together.”
Sam cocked an eyebrow. “Okay…. So, like for drinks or something?” He shifted the bag from one hand to another.
“Well, I’m sure drinking would be involved.” Her tone lilted suggestively.
It took a moment for her words to sink in. Sam snapped his eyes onto hers.
“What are you talking about, Dee?” He shook his head and laughed a little.
Dee simply smiled.
“So it’s an orgy,” he summarized, not exactly skeptical.
“There has to be an ending that fits, for all this,” Dee said with a nod. “I’m not going to push it on you, Sam, but-” She paused for a second, then looked up at him. “But I think it’s for the best.”
Sam raked a hand across his face. “Dee. I don’t know.” He looked at her, thinking about how he would feel, seeing Kara with Lee, really with Lee. He didn’t know if he could handle it.
Sensing that he might say no, Dee stepped forward and put a hand on his chest. “There are other, um, benefits, Sam.” She looked up at him with those enormous and dramatically-colored eyes. Sam stopped short. He’d forgotten how beautiful she actually was. The twinge of desire resolved any doubts.
“Okay,” he breathed. “If you’re sure, I’ll talk to Kara.”
Dee nodded. “I made my choice.” Her mouth curved slightly. “But I haven’t forgotten how to...explore. It’ll be good.” She nodded once, sealing the deal.
Sam inhaled as Dee walked off. Sometimes there weren't words to explain the strangeness that he'd accepted as his life-or rather, there were, but sometimes they were just plain inadequate. He smiled.
Foursome just didn’t cover it.

Dee’s mind whirled as she walked back to her quarters. She knew Lee would be shocked by the suggestion and would probably refuse-at first. Lee wouldn’t like the messy gray area in this idea. He liked things clean and neat, categorized properly and maintained to ensure adherence. But this was something they needed to do. Despite Lee’s recent choice, the sexual tension remained. She saw Lee watching Kara and saw Kara stiffen, acutely aware of Lee in a room.
She shook her head and laughed, wondering briefly if she’d gone mad. No, it has to happen. Dee thought she couldn’t ever have Lee unless she became part of his relationship with Kara. Make the taboo acceptable. She felt a twinge of fear as she considered the risks. It might backfire. It might be too painful to even imagine, but her instincts pushed her forward. Something about it felt right.

Dee smiled as she slid the smooth glass stopper down her neck, trailing a few drops of precious perfume along her throat. Lee’s expression was priceless and his initial denials were just as she’d expected. He was so predictable sometimes. She had to admit to a small twinge when she saw the glint in his eye when he finally agreed. She pushed the thought away and straightened her dress. Tonight, she vowed, would be for resolving all of this. She knew there might be difficult moments, but she trusted her instincts. Mostly.
Lee came up behind her and slid his palms down her arms. “You okay with this?”
She turned and smiled brightly. “Yes. I am.” She leaned close to him and put a finger over his lips. “No more questions, Major. No more thinking.” She gave him a kiss and moved away. He smiled tightly back.
A knock at the hatch made them both jump. Lee looked to Dee, who smiled and winked; part of her was enjoying his discomfort. The other part, the one that had been sowing doubt and feeding fear, wanted to run the other way, grab Lee and hold on as tightly as she could. Dee squared her shoulders and shook her head against the doubt - holding on would not work. This needed to happen. She approached the hatch and gripped the wheel. Pulling at the heavy door, she reminded herself to breathe.
The hatch opened to Kara’s laughter and her leaning into Sam. It was obvious that they’d both been drinking. Kara met Dee’s eyes for the briefest of moments before trolling down the length of her dress and giving her an appreciative whistle.
Sam took the first step into their quarters, pulling Kara with him. Kara looked around and spotted the bar. “Ha. Now I know where they keep the good stuff,” Kara said too loudly and barged past Dee towards the bar. Dee paused, suddenly remembering why she didn’t really like Starbuck.
Dee watched Kara as she approached the bar where Lee was standing with a drink. Kara laughed and reached for the ambrosia. “So, Lee, I see you are getting ready for this frakked up little party.” Lee smiled uncomfortably and Dee turned back to Sam. Let Kara try to frak this up if she wanted to, Dee thought, I’m not going to let that happen.
Dee looked up at him and smiled. “Hey, Sam.” She leaned towards him for a quick greeting kiss. Sam kissed her chastely on the cheek and laughed nervously close to her ear. Dee pulled back and gave him a bright smile, one that didn’t quite erase the fear in her eyes, but made them both feel a little less nervous.
Dee and Sam turned to followed Kara to the bar and they each took a glass. Kara slammed back a shot before all of the glasses were full and held hers out again for more. Dee sighed inwardly, it was a shame that Kara would be too drunk to remember this. Dee poured a little into the glass.
“Geez, Dee. A little stingy on the booze,” Kara challenged.
Dee just smiled and raised her glass. She caught Lee’s gaze and saw apprehension. Breaking eye contact, she tossed down the drink with the others.
For the longest minute of her life, all four of them stared at the floor, the walls, the furniture, swirling their drinks and shifting from one foot to another, nervous as children. It was up to Dee now, to face it and make it happen.
She took a breath, loud enough that everyone’s eyes snapped to hers, waiting for a sign, and set her empty glass on the table. In that moment, Dee called on something from deep inside, a resolve to move forward and finish it once and for all. One last time before it began, she locked eyes with Lee and held him in a stare. He looked at her, uncertain, waiting for her last permission. Dee nodded and looked at Kara, who for once kept her mouth shut. Dee closed her eyes for a long moment and turned away.
And then it began, slowly, tentatively, at first. Behind her, she heard the thud of glasses and sensed Lee and Kara moving. She stiffened and swallowed against a moment of panic rising in her throat. The reality of what she’d begun threatened to undo her, to unleash that part of her that was ready to crumble and beg everyone to just stop.
It was Sam who saved her from crumbling as he looped his arms around her back and pulled her against him. He bent down and kissed her soundly. She resisted at first, struck by the difference of his lips, and then it clicked, and she remembered where she was and what she was about to do.
She let herself go and kissed him back, running her fingers along his muscular arms up to his hair, losing herself in the sensation of his lips and the taste of ambrosia in his mouth. Gods he was tall, she thought, as a muscle in the back of her neck protested the angle. She broke off the kiss and he looked down at her.
She pulled him by the arm and led him over to the bed where she’d laid out blankets and pillows. She sat, somewhat primly, on the edge of the bed, trying to avoid looking in Lee’s direction, not quite ready to know what he was doing, but also intensely curious. She imagined him, nervous at first, but then letting himself go, needing this one last time with Kara. Just the mental image of them together made her gut twist and she turned her head away. Gratefully, Sam moved in front of her, blocking her view, and kneeled on the floor, evening their height. Sam kissed her again, slowly, languorously and wrapped his arms around her, drawing her into the safety and protection of his embrace.
“You okay?” Sam asked, sliding his mouth along her jaw to her ear.
“Yeah,” she said, feeling comfort in his arms.
She’d resisted her first urge, but curiosity and newly found security pushed her again and she peeked over Sam’s shoulder. She stopped breathing for a moment as she witnessed Lee’s face buried in the curve of Kara’s neck, his hands pulling her against him, Kara’s head thrown back. Dee closed her eyes tightly and Sam squeezed her closer. She began to breathe, reminding herself that this was the catharsis of all their untapped feelings; any interruption would prove it pointless.
“This was my idea, Sam,” she said quietly, opening her eyes to look up at him.
“It was a good one, Dee,” he answered, through a breath that might have been a sigh.
“I needed to risk it,” she said, nearly whispering, her lips curved into a wry smile.
“No, no,” he objected softly, his focus on her. He shifted a little, sliding his hands up her arms to rest on her shoulders. “We all needed to do it. One last time. Make sure it’s going to stick.” He looked intently at her. “Lock in the choice, right?
Dee nodded. “Choice,” she said, letting the word linger on her lips. She almost glanced back to where Lee and Kara were still occupied, but kept her eyes on Sam. “I didn’t think it would be enough to be chosen, but it has to be.”
She looked down for a moment, then raised her eyes back up to look straight into his. “I don’t need to be chosen by everyone,” she said honestly in a low tone.
“I know that,” he said, matching her tone. “Tonight, though, choices are easy and light.”
Dee leaned into him, curving a leg around his waist and moving her hips towards him. This was about comfort and enjoyment, and she’d been putting too much pressure on the wrong parts of it. It was no difficult choice to love Sam in this moment, even if only for this moment.
He responded by pulling her close and kissing her. She fell into the kiss easily, reveling in the sensation of his hands on her shoulders, sliding the thin straps down to reveal her breasts. He squeezed and she arched towards him, running her fingers along his arms. Pushing her back onto the bed, Sam climbed up and pulled her towards him.
They moved slowly, taking their time, reveling in the differences and excitement of this night of passion. Dee pressed her body along the length of him as the intensity of their touching and pulling grew stronger. Dee was naked now, stripped of her dress in easy motions. She pulled at the snaps on his pants and freed him. He shrugged of his shirt, and broke contact only long enough to shed his pants before he gathered her against him again. Sam’s hand slid from her hair to her hips and down into the triangle between her legs. She gasped as his fingers skillfully sought entrance. She squeezed and stroked his hardness between her hands.
Sam moved over her, parting her legs with his knees. He hovered there, kissing her as she stroked him. Dee arched her hips towards him, urging him to sink into her. He positioned himself and dipped the tip into her wetness. She closed her eyes, mind lost in anticipation. Sam nudged himself inside slowly, frustratingly, until Dee snapped her eyes open and groaned, slamming her hips up to meet his, taking his length deeply inside her. Sam’s eyes widened and he smiled, caught in his assumption, and began to move inside her. She opened her legs wider, taking him in, and matched the rhythm.
Dee’s mind was set free of the anxiety and worry she’d felt for the past few days. She drifted in a heady stream of pleasure and connection with Sam. Dee felt her passion collecting low in her body, intensity rising as Sam increased the pace of his thrusts. She stretched her neck to capture his lips hungrily. The difference in height set them off balance and they groaned, amused, and adjusted their position. Sam slid out and kissed her thoroughly. He pushed her onto her side and climbed over, lining himself along her back. Raising her leg with his hand, he positioned himself and slid into her, pushing firmly as she arced her hips back to take him in. They both groaned as he sunk into her and he wrapped two hands around her breasts, squeezing and biting her shoulder.
Dee reached up and behind her to pull at Sam’s hair, losing herself in his thrusts, her eyes closed and mouth open. He felt so incredibly good, hard and soft, erasing her worries.
He slowed his pace and whispered, “Open your eyes, Dee, and look.” Dee did what was asked and then snapped them shut again. Her body stiffened. Sam caressed her. “It’s okay, Dee. Look. You have to do this.”
Dee held a breath and opened her eyes. Lee was positioned over Kara, thrusting inside her, their mouths locked in a passionate kiss. Dee started, her belly tensing at the sight. Sam caressed her shoulder. “It’s okay, Dee. Just open yourself up.”
She opened her mind, loosening the jealous hold and watched. At the same time, Sam began to move inside her. She watched Lee, his muscles straining, thrusting into Kara as Sam thrust into her. Part of her brain screamed out, STOP. But she quieted it. Her mind split a little. The fear of them making love lost some of its power. Here they were, frakking right in front of her, two beautiful bodies, moving together, and she just let it go. Sam was inside her, filling her physically and emotionally. She knew he was watching, too. They both watched, knowing they were seeing something beautiful, something fleeting that would never happen again. Dee felt some satisfaction that this was the only time. He had no more reason to chase her, no more reason to lust after Kara Thrace. He had her. She’d witnessed it. And, finally, it held no more power.
As Sam’s thrusts intensified, she closed her eyes, meeting him at every stroke. His hand moved over her hips and found her swollen clit. He matched his thrusts with his fingers and her mind and body exploded into orgasm. She cried out, astonished at its power. As she came, she opened her eyes and found Lee staring at her, still embedded in Kara. A look of shocked recognition flicked along his features as he plunged himself into Kara and came with a deep gasp. Dee watched, disconnected, her body still jolting from orgasm, and she closed her eyes, focusing on Sam, pressing herself into him.
Sam’s movements became wild and she knew he was close. She flew on instinct now, matching his thrusts and moaning, sensing every movement that heightened his arousal. She dug her nails into Sam’s thigh and he shattered, slamming into her hard and coming deep inside. He held himself there, wrapping his arms around her body and pulling her tight. He said her name, reverently, once. She smiled softly and relaxed into him.
She whispered back, “Thank you.”
