We've got a few more days of
sign ups, and I know there are a few lurkers out there still, so to get the creative juices flowing, and maybe inspire some more
sign-ups, we're going to talk about subtext. More than that, we're going to view some subtext!
Subtext. What is it?
subtext, according to dictionary.comThe underlying personality of a dramatic character as implied or indicated by a script or text and interpreted by an actor in performance.
subtext, according to ralst.com...images, dialogue and characterisation that implies a sexual attraction or relationship between characters. This is very subjective and will often be met with looks of bewilderment by others...
Why is it important?
Subtext is important in writing any fanfic, but especially in slash, simply due to the fact that we don't see these kinds of relationships in canon, usually. In Battlestar Galactica, any slash story that you write is, by its very definition, going to have to defy the canon world of the show.
We'll talk about how to overcome canon a little later in the 'thon. But for now, let's just embrace a few scenes (of many!) in which we slashers get some much-needed subtext.

What is going on here? Obviously we know what that look means in the canon world. But what other secrets do Anders and Tyrol share? You could write an entire fic by interpreting this single scene.
dayln03 says: "I love Sam's big sigh at the end, like, 'That was a good frak.'"
Exactly. Exactly.
Feel free to talk about your favorite subtext-y scenes, or even post them if you have them, and I'll be posting a few more scenes over the last days of sign-ups.
