The sheets rustled noisily as they moved together. Bill’s face was buried in her neck, peppering small kisses there and eliciting a romantic moan from her each time his lips touched her skin. Bill had never heard a more beautiful soundtrack to his lovemaking than the sounds that were escaping from Laura.

The small moans, the throaty hums, the breathy whispers of his name; all those sounds fed his lust for this woman, encouraging him to double his efforts at pleasing her. She began to pant as he moved faster within her, hot breath caressing his cheek when she pulled herself impossibly closer to him.

“Bill.” His name was panted near his ear, edging him closer and closer towards oblivion in the arms of his redheaded temptress.

“Bill. Bill! BILL!” His name was being screamed now and not by the owner of the smooth as honey voice he had come to adore. This voice was harsh and laced with venom as she yelled. The yelling was muffled slightly and Bill pushed himself up to look at Laura.

He found sweat soaked sheets staring back at him. Gone was the beautiful woman who only moments ago had been writhing in ecstasy. The yelling was still there, now accompanied by fists banging against his door.

“Gods damn it, Bill! Open the frakking door.” Spurred on by the anger in her voice, Bill leapt out of bed, throwing a shirt on and pulling on a pair of jeans as he padded across the room and out into the hallway. He paused a moment and sighed before pulling open the front door.

“What do you want Carolanne?” The blonde woman who stood in front of him was most definitely not the woman he married. When they had met she had been confident, a real go-getter. She worked hard and never gave up on something she wanted. She had wanted Bill and he didn’t have enough fight in him to say no.

He did love her though, once. The thought of going home to her used to excite him, despite the constant thoughts of a certain other woman. Maybe it was those thoughts of Laura that drove the wedge between them. Once that wedge was there it just grew and grew until it was almost as if they were living on separate colonies.

“You forget it’s your day with the boys?”

“No Carolanne, I’m not supposed to collect them until tomorrow.” She looked at him through puzzled darks eyes. This was becoming more frequent, she would forget that Bill was picking up the boys on certain days or she would arrive unexpectedly on Bill’s doorstep with them.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes Anne, I’m sure. Look it’s OK, they’re here now. Come on inside guys.” He ruffled their hair as they walked by and into his house. Carolanne at least had the decency to look embarrassed as she shuffled her feet and stared at the ground.

“I’m sorry.”

“Its fine but this is happening an awful lot. Are you sure you’re alright?” Regardless of how messy their divorce had been in the end, this was still the mother of his kids, a woman he had once worshipped, and Bill still cared for her. She didn’t answer him, merely nodded her head and turned around, uttering several more apologies.

Bill closed the door behind me, smiling at the scene that greeted him in the living room. Zak was lying on his stomach, nose almost pressed against the glass of the TV and Lee sat on the couch, legs tucked under him, his nose pressed into the pages of a book.

“You guys have breakfast?” His smile grew when he only received only a small nod from Lee and a grunt from Zak. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

He flopped into the couch beside Lee, fixing his gaze on his eldest son. Lee’s dark hair was short and it was spiked at the front. In contrast, Zak’s floppy mess was a lot longer and constantly covering his eyes. How that boy could see anything was a mystery to Bill.

Relaxing back into the cushions, Bill just enjoyed being able to spend time with his kids. Occasionally he would ask questions and, if they felt like it, they would reply. The rest of the time he simply observed them, committing every detail about those beautiful children to memory.
A quiet knock at the door brought him back to reality and both kids looked up at him expectantly. Bill pushed himself off the couch and prayed with each step he made towards the door that it wasn’t Carolanne forgetting something else. It was to his utter surprise that he opened the door to the pretty schoolteacher he had been dreaming about this morning.

“Laura?” Her bright smile faded slightly when she heard the questioning tone in his voice.

“You forgot?”

“I’m so sorry, Carolanne just dropped the kids here unexpectedly and I lost track of time and I may have slightly forgot. Did I mention I was sorry?”

“Don’t worry, Bill, its fine. We can reschedule for another day.” She glanced inside as if trying to get a look at his kids. He opened the door wider in a silent invitation for her.

“No I can’t. Bill you go spend the day with your kids and we can-“ Bill stepped forward and covered her mouth with his. His hands slipped to their usual positions, one at her waist and one tangling in her hair. Laura’s hands clenched the material of his shirt to pull him closer.

If there was one thing Bill would never tire of, it was kissing Laura Roslin. Memories of his dream came flooding back to him when she hummed a little against his lips. Thos dreams had become more frequent. Every day he hoped to replace the dreams with the reality.

He had to pull away, afraid if he didn’t stop now he’d never be able to. His hand travelled from her luscious locks forward to cup her cheek, his thumb running across her thoroughly kissed lips.

“Laura, would you like to meet my sons?” He felt his heart constrict at the small nod she gave him. Laura Roslin had changed his life. She hadn’t changed his everyday routine, or his job. She had changed the way he saw things and felt things. He felt every emotion more strongly now and it was scaring him half to death.

He let his hand fall from her face and turned back into the house, feeling her presence close behind him as he led her into the room where Lee and Zak were. Both boys looked up at the adults briefly before returning their interest back to books and TV.

“Guys, this is Laura. She’s a friend of mine and she’s going to be spending the day with us. That alright?” He felt Laura trembling with nerves behind him. He desperately wanted to reach out and comfort her, to touch her, but he didn’t want to have those signs of affection in front of the kids just yet.

“Can we have friends over too, Dad?” Zak asked, putting a smile on his father’s face.

“No you idiot, Dad’s introducing us to his new girlfriend. Of course we can’t have friends over!” Laura gasped and a hand flew up to cover her mouth. Sometimes Lee was too smart for his own good, it was going to get him in trouble some day. If Bill wasn’t so proud of Lee’s observation skills he would have said something.

Instead he took Laura by the hand and guided her towards the couch, pushing Lee over to make room for them both. He sat with arm behind her on the back of the couch and the other resting in her lap, fingers intertwined with hers.

Conversation flowed easily between the four individuals in the room and, as the kids talked more and more, Laura finally relaxed into his embrace. His arm was resting around the shoulders of the woman of his dreams and his kids were talking happily together. Bill couldn’t remember ever being this happy. He should remember to tell Laura that.

“Laura, why are you Dad’s girlfriend?” Zak suddenly asked. There slight tightening of her grip on his hand before she began to answer back.

“What do you mean Zak?”

“He wants to know what you like about Dad.” Lee answered for his little brother. Bill was torn. On one hand he wanted to put a stop to this conversation to save embarrassment for Laura but on the other hand he desperately wanted to know the answer to this question as well.

“Let’s make a deal, you tell me all the things you like about your Dad and we’ll see if they’re the same things I like. Deal?”

“Deal.” Zak rubbed his head dramatically as he thought of appealing attributes his father had. “He’s funny!”

“His sense of humour, yep that’s one thing what else?”

“He’s smart.” Lee spoke in a quiet voice. It touched Bill to hear him speak like that. He had been afraid they were drifting apart because of the divorce but here was proof his son still loved and respected him.

Bill listened in shock as all three continued to list the things they liked about him. From his strength to his cooking, the list seemed endless. They seemed to be drawing to a close after listing so many, Bill had lost count.

“His voice! He’s the best at reading stories to me at night. Not like Mom, she doesn’t read them right.” Zak excitedly yelled.

“I’ll have to take your word on that. Bill hasn’t read to me yet.” Laura smiled wickedly at him as she spoke, causing the collar on his shirt to suddenly feel tighter.

“Maybe I can read to you sometime?”

“I’d like that.” She offered him another smile before turning back to the two boys. It was only now that Bill noticed Lee had abandoned his book and Zak the TV. They both sat on the floor at the feet of the adults, giving Laura their undivided attention.

“Those were all really good but you forgot one.” Both boys looked as puzzled as Bill felt. “His bravery.”

“What?”

“Your father is a very brave man. I mean, you have to be very, very brave to be a Viper pilot. And that’s how I first met your Dad. Because he was being brave. Someone wasn’t being very nice to me and your Dad swooped in and saved the day.”

The two boys looked suitably impressed by the story, probably because Laura wisely chose to leave out the part where he got his ass kicked and she was forced to swoop in and save the day. For that he was eternally grateful.

“Dad I’m hungry, can we have lunch now?” Obviously impressed-with-Dad time was over.

“Sure. I’ve nothing in the fridge so we’ll have to go out ok?” A squeal of delight was his only answer. The war about who would get the front seat broke out and both boys bolted for the door to try and beat the other to the car.

“Don’t worry you’ll still get the front seat.”

“I better.” They rose from the couch, Bill suddenly bringing her hand up to his mouth and placing a kiss to the back of it.

“What was that for?” She asked as her free hand rested against his cheek.

“For today. I know we haven’t been together that long, but that conversation just now and being here with you and the boys........I can’t remember a time that I was happier.”

“Good.” She whispered as she leaned forward. “Because you make me happy too.” Her lips pressed against his in a quick peck.

Neither Lee nor Zak put up a fight when Laura asked for the passenger seat, it was incredible to see how good she was with kids. Once they were all seated and buckled, Zak spoke up.

“Dad you never told us what you like about Laura!”

Bill turned in his seat to stare at the woman beside him. What did he like about her? Her beauty, her smile, her laugh, her hair, her legs that went on for days, how good she was with his kids, the fact that she liked him back, that she made him feel happy and nervous and shy and brave all at the same time.

Did they have time for him to list out his whole list of good things about Laura Roslin? Probably not. Instead he smiled at her and said the one word that came to mind when Zak first asked the question.

“Everything.”
