Parachute (Roslin/Adama drabble)

A/N: Written for the "You Decide" challenge at ar_drabbles and based on kastari 's prompt "Parachute". When I first read the prompt I immediately thought of the song "Parachute" by "Something Happens" so the lyrics of that inspired this a little as well.

President Laura Roslin was many things, headstrong, decisive, ruthless, proud; to name a few. But as she stood there, sobbing in his arms, there was another word he thought of to describe her: broken.
“I wasn’t ready. I’m still not ready.”
“Shhh.”
“No Bill, I can’t do it anymore. I can’t go back and face them after this. I wasn’t ready.”
Not for the first time that day he cursed his son’s foolish and careless actions. He was so hell-bent on carving out his own path in life, separating himself from Bill. And now Laura had been caught in the crossfire.
“Laura, look at me.”
He waited until those green orbs that were swimming in unshed tears met his gaze before continuing on.
“I’m here for you. This time you are not on your own.”
“I can’t face them Bill. The thought of facing the press after what just happened.......it’s like jumping off a cliff, not knowing where I’m gonna land.”
“Well then think of me as your parachute. I’m here to make it safer for you. I’ll catch you no matter what, Laura.”
She whimpered as she threw herself into his embrace once more, holding on to her parachute.
