May 28
  • Extra equipment and supplies that have been inventoried and reported to the Tanzania government will be the second bag, if possible for people.  (OK by Delta--KLM?)  If not, depending on funds, may take as 'third bags' which I will cover with UM Church money
  • 8:30 AM Gather at a common spot in Cedar Rapids and load into transport vehicle(s).  Vehicle yet to be determined. Dennis Gormley's minivan will be used if necessary for additional cargo.  Location of meet to be determined.
  • 2:30 PM:  Arrive at MSP to check in.
  • 5:10 PM Board flight DL0224 MSP airport to Amsterdam.  There will be meals and movies.
 
May 26
  • Arrive Amsterdam 8:25 AM
  • Dollars should work in Amsterdam airport.
  • Powell's will join us for the next leg.  (Family from KS, two Pediatricians and their daughter).
  • 11:00 AM Flight KL0569Q KLM from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro airport.  (Meals and movies)
  • 8:25 PM Arrive Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania.

May 27
  • 7:00AM Breakfast at Kia Lodge
  • The Powell family will go their own way-probably fly to Mwanza then.
  • 8:00 AM Pure-Afro tours will pick us up in safari vehicles.  One bag with you for the whole safari.  Additional baggage will loaded into a vehicle to be taken to Nyakato.  Dress for dusty and hot.  When we enter the crater we will be at about 8000 feet, but it will be midday and warm.  It is a 3 hour drive to the Lodge where we will check in.  Lunches provided by Pure-Afro.
  • Noon-arrive at Serena Lodge and check in.  http://www.serenahotels.com/serenangorongoro/default-en.html.  This is on the ridge of the crater (Ngorongoro Crater).  It will have some altitude, so expect the evening to get chilly.  (The coldest place you will be.  Gets to the 40's, so bring clothes accordingly.)
  • Enter the Crater for afternoon game drive. 
  • Evening.  Back to Lodge for meal, sunset and then sleep.


May 28
  • Breakfast at Serena Lodge
  • 'Early departure' (we will be told the time before hand). 
  • Anyone wanting to do a balloon ride should contact Bill or Dana.  I think it is around $500, but may be less for larger party.  This would be the day for that.
  • Oduvai Gorge (Cradle of Mankind) optional stop.
  • To Serengeti for afternoon game drive.

May 29
  • Early morning game drive.  This may be where we find the Great Migration--1.5 million large animals travelling together:  Wildebeest & Zebras followed by carnivores: cheetah, leopard, lion, hyenas
  • Travel to Nyakato.
 
May 30
  • Rest, become familiar with the site and anything else that Paula has planned.  Powells should be there then.
  • Dennis joins us in Nyakato.
 
June 1-June 12
  • Building
  • Patient care
  • Some may be travelling to outlying clinics.
  • Powells will go separate way at some point.
  • Likely staying in building already erected.  Alternatively at VETA Hostel.
 
June 13
  • Malcolm & Jared travelling to Karatu to visit another mission.  Additional cost, but if others wish to come it may be arranged.
  • Any of the team that wishes to spend a little time in Arusha-gateway to Serengeti, fly Mwanza to Kilimanjaro and spend a day in Arusha, including a tour of coffee plantation or snake park.  Additional cost.  Need to know before we go probably-though I was able to arrange my safari after I was there.
 
June 14
  • Any remaining in Nyakato, fly from Mwanza to Kilimanjaro 1:45 PM,    arrive 3:05 PM
  • 9:30 PM  Kilimanjaro to Amsterdam with stop in Dar es Salaam.  Short stop stay on plane.  Flight KL0569T on KLM.
 
June 15
  • 7:40 AM arrive in Amsterdam
  • 10:20 AM depart Amsterdam for Minneapolis.  Flight DL0259U  Delta.
  • 12:15 PM arrive in MSP.
  • 5 hour drive home.
