Day Six: Your Day in great detail

I met my best friend while working as a CNA on cardiovascular/telemetry floor at Mercy Hospital here in Des Moines. We worked together every weekend and slowly got to know each other. Even though work was busy, and stressful, I always had some good laughs when I worked with Vilasatry. We were opposites in a lot of ways. For instance I will walk around your feelings, and Vila will tell you exactly how it is. I wear my feelings on my sleeve, and you wouldn't think she has any, until you really get to know her better. I would compare her to a slightly more emotionally in tuned Christina Yang. But she's my person. And we have the same basic values and outlooks on life. We both were super into school and work, and just surviving until we are done with school. We are both never really went out until we met each other, and have never had a boyfriend. We can joke about the fact that we are going to be old maids together, running around the nursing home trying to pick up guys because we finally have the time to make it a priority.

Vilasatry was born in Loas. She moved here when she was 11, then went to an over-priced private University and worked her butt off to pay her own tuition so wouldn't graduate with any debt. She is now applying for med school and trying to decide between that and Pharmacy school, but what ever she does, and puts her mind to she will be great at. Because she is a very driven and determined individual. She is the leader and I am the follower, because she always knows exactly what she wants from life, and I like to just be spontaneous, go with the flow and not plan anything out. She plans everything out. I cannot tell  you how many times she asks, "So, what's the plan," or tells me, "So here's the plan," a day. I just smile and nod, because I really don't need one, but I appreciate that she does.

I currently live in her basement with her family. They invited me to live here so I can save money and pay off credit card bills so that in a year or two I can be in a position financially to buy my own house. I love her family, even her tool of a brother, who definitely loves himself a lot more. I always have valued family, and so it feels good to have expanded mine to include another brother and sister, and another set of parents. I look forward to her being at my wedding if I ever get married, and my being at hers. I look forward to us raising our kids up together, and never losing track or touch of each other. I have never had friends that I have been so close with that I worried about that kind of thing, but now I have several of them.

Vila, from Loas, and Buddhist. I am white as you can be, and Mormon, Karina from Mexico initially, and Catholic, and Jasmina, who is Muslim and originally from Bosnia. The closest friends I have had to date, of which I am very, very grateful for. I love that we are all so different, that they all speak different languages have different cultures, it's never dull when we get together. Or when our families get together. I am proud one day my kids will be able to call all of them auntie.
