If he didn't think about Jack leavin' then things weren't so bad. He still had a job. He still had some co-workers he could call friends. Somewhat. He still had Owen to trade sarcastic nasties with. Though, to be honest their heart hadn't been in it half the time

After a year (that never existed) in captivity, subjected to various (fairly innovative, he had to give the rogue Time Lord that) forms of torture, Captain Jack Harkness had been given the offer he'd spent a hundred and fifty years pining for... and he'd turned it down.
He practically bounded along Mermaid Quay, down to the Tourist Office, through the secret passage, down the lift. He smiled broadly as the cog door rolled back revealing the Hub. It had been his home for most of the past hundred and fifty years, but this was the first time it truly felt like it. This was the first time Jack had chosen it

Gwen shrugged her shoulders to Ianto's question, "Not really," she said, "And it tastes just fine to me. But, I'll definitely be in the mood for a second cup, so feel free to make more

"He's not that kind of a doctor," Jack told Owen. His eyes wandered over to Ianto who, he noted, was fairly pointedly not looking at him. Jack looked at Gwen instead.
"I needed answers. The way I am... I wasn't born like this. He was there when it happened. I thought he would know." He sighed and leaned his head back against the wall behind him, letting his eyes drift up towards the ceiling. Myffanwy was flying lazy circles above them. "It was my only chance to ask. I waited for it for a long time." He tilted his head slightly so he could see Gwen again. "How long was I gone?"
"About why…you can't die," Gwen offered to Jack. In their line of work, it was generally something for which they could be grateful. They had almost lost him for good the year before, but she knew. She knew he would bounce back, no matter how awful the process was for him. Or how awful living life this way was for him.
She glanced at Ianto and Owen as Jack went on. Ianto was looking mighty uncomfortable and Owen was enjoying a shot of whiskey. She almost wanted to ask for a shot for her own coffee, but she needed a level head right now.
She nodded solemnly to his words. She understood why he left, she really did. But, damn, she couldn't help but still be pretty mad at him. "It's been about 3 months," she told him. "And I understand why you did it, it just would've been nice to know the details beforehand." Because, hell, she was pretty sure she spotted a gray hair just from worrying about Jack's whereabouts and over everyone at Torchwood. "But, not much can be done about that now. I'm just glad you're back," she finally admitted.
Owen found it appropriate to grunt approvingly at Gwen's words. Swallowing a final swig of his spiced coffee, he glanced at Jack sideways: "It's good to hear I'm still useful," he decreed. "And it's good to have you back. Not that we were bored or anything - it's just... a good feeling."
Keeping his eyes on the floor, Ianto only listened. He didn't look anywhere or at anyone. Not that people seemed to notice. Now that Jack was back, it was time for him to shuffle back to the shadows and stay there. Unnoticed by most.
He put down Tosh' cup of coffee on her desk and only then noticed he hadn't gotten himself one. Hmm. Well. It was already started. With a sigh, Ianto crossed his arms, dangled the tray from his fingers and listed to the others.
