Vaccination scars on the upper arms of Japanese people

I don't know why this never hit me until now but I just realized that Atsushi's gorgeous arms are not marred by vaccination scars! I cannot recall any B-T member showing off their arms and seeing such scars. Am I going crazy? I'm not at home so I can't go through my photos but surely I would remember such a thing. That's cool that you have a parental association with the small pox scar. I have one and I have always quite liked having it, though I don't really recall getting it. But yeah it's a bunch of needles at once, (I probably passed out since i have a needle phobia). I grew up in Canada and am the same age as BT so one would assume they'd have them too, but I don't know Japan's vaccination policies of the early 70's. Maybe they have them but they get photo-shopped out or covered in makeup? I think it would require close personal inspection :)

I have known people from Taiwan to Mexico, from B-T's ages to my age, with such scars. So I'm just a little bit puzzled as to why I never noticed this oddity before! The problem is mainly that B-T doesn't show off their bodies. I've seen other Japanese celebrities with the scars. In fact, that's probably why I fell in love with one pop star, ha! Maybe B-T are just good healers. I must add this to my checklist for the imaginary day I run into B-T: talk about scars and demand to see their arms.

My mom has one! I was always mystified by it as a little kid. Strangely enough, my dad doesn't (or at least I don't remember him having one) but I wonder if it's because he moved to the states when he was 13. Or maybe it's because she grew up in a city?

It's a wonder. I've been browsing my friend's photos online. She's a little older than me from Kyushu. She and her friends are always showing off their arms and I cannot find anything! I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. It's almost like I need to find a medical paper on the history and geography of vaccinations in Japan. If I start asking Japanese, they will think I'm a freak. They already do ;)

It counts for me. I'm just used to non-Americans having it. My friend from Taiwan has it and I'm guessing it was done in the 1980s. It's just normal to me for others to have it.

Thanks to the internet and having friends you can ask silly questions to, I have some insights into the scar in question.

My Japanese friend wrote back to my silly questions and says....
1. the scarring effect probably varies by school (you get the shot at school)... she said her scar is barely noticeable but there are kids younger than her with bigger scars.
2. celebrities often have the scars removed (she's in the modeling industry so she would know)
3. and uh.. I guess that's it. she wondered about other countries so I told her what I know.
