Okay. Here's the deal

C. and I got engaged just before Christmas.

But the wedding was giving us indigestion.
  • We wanted it small, but our guest list grew to 200.
  • Finding a wedding dress was going to be nightmare in a world where weddings have become an industry.
  • We have little money, and don't want to make our parents foot the bill.
  • I, for one, hate crowds, and find most weddings annoying.
Then there's other considerations.
  • Planning a wedding takes time, which we did not want to spend.
  • The sooner we're married, the better.
  • The sooner we're married, the sooner I have health insurance.
  • To quote Billy Crystal: "When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start right now."
Plus...
  • We both think marriage is both a "civil union" and "spiritual union", and all the state should have a hand in sanctioning is the civil part (which should be open to all), and all an individual's church should sanction is the spiritual part.
  • All you need in Indiana is 20 bucks, your drivers licenses, an officiant, and a stamp.
  • Did I mention my Dad is a minister, authorized by the state to officiate marriages?
However:
  • My Dad was leaving Thursday for further vacationing in Florida.
So....
  • C. and I got married on Tuesday!!!!!!!

This was our "civil marriage". Our "spiritutal marriage" will likely be April or May, and will be more Celebration than Ceremony, more Party than Pomp. It will be informal, but still is an important part of having those we love celebrate and participate in the spiritual joining of the two of us.
