With all the gossip going around lately, Bailey had being having quite a hard time concentrating long enough to get anything even mildly productive done, let alone put a dent in her already teetering pile of homework. Apparently, the new headmistress wasn't the only one planning a strict curriculum this year ( Read more... )

Afraid to roam the halls and risk bumping into Harry, or worse, Kyle, Hermione sought refuge in the Library. She had spent the day teetering among old volumes researching what on earth could be happening with Harry.

Having dismissed the Imperius Curse completely, she had gone through several books on hexes before deciding it was impossible a hex could maintain this much fortitude over time. Pouring through a book on charms for a break in her heavy study routine she looked up crossly at the sound of gum snapping.

Unable to ignore the sound a second longer she attempted a nice demeanor. She tried to smile, not meaning to sneer. She tried to whisper, it wasn't supposed to be a hiss as she asked the young girl, "I don't suppose you could be quiet for another 30 minutes perhaps?"

Really that was all Hermione had left in the library anyway and she attempted to smile to take the sting out of her words.

Bailey popped another bubble as she looked away from the window on the other side of the library that had been holding her attention, flinching apologetically as she registered what the other girl had said.

"Right. Sorry," she whispered, pulling the deflated bubble back into her mouth and going back to silently chewing it.

Almost as if to make up for the lack of sound, she started tapping the tip of her quill against the edge of the table as she tried to concentrate on her work again.

Raising her eyebrows, at first Hermione attempted to ignore the noise. Valiantly she read the parchment in front of her. Again. And Again. Finally realizing she wasn't going to be able to get through a sentence let alone 30 minutes of concentrated research without putting an end to the annoyance she sighed huffily and set her reading materials on the table rather huffily.

"Is there something you need help with?" She bit out through practically clenched teeth.

"Hm?" Bailey looked up from the page she'd been blankly staring at, realizing as she did so that she was still tapping her quill against the table.

"Oh. No, no I'm fine," she said with another apologetic grin.

"Sorry if I'm bothering you. Are you doing anything particularly important?" Conversation, maybe? That'd be a fairly good distraction for now, though the other girl looked just about ready to bite her head off. Might as well give it a shot.
