My old boss at Eagle used to always say, trust but verify. I wish I would have applied that notion to real life outside of work. In May of this year I found out the cell phone line I opened for an friend in 2009 was past due. After some back and forth communication she told me it was taken care of. This is really infuriating. I'm hoping that there is some way to prove negligence on the part of the phone company that would allow you to get this off your record. I know calling these companies is an absolute pain, but it might be worth it to see if you can get a record of all the calls made to the service center or billing center regarding the phone number. And if from that you can make the case that there was a huge miscommunication between the parties involved, then you might be able to have them take this information off you credit record. I'm not sure if there is a procedure for this, but it might be worthwhile to speak with someone in credit/finance/legal world to figure out what your options are. This might necessitate your getting in touch with a lawyer as well as contacting the phone company. We can look into the issue further if you want. But I am really sorry about the whole situation, you're not Lily Aldrin (even if you have a shoe problem).
