3) I really agree with you on this one. He writes the book to come to peace wit himself. I forgot who but, one of the other soldiers could not at all deal with the war and had a very hard transition from war to peace. However, O'Brien also says how he was fine with that because of how he writes and how he emptied and sorted out his thoughts on paper. Mag89 Jamie Magdic
Me too but on the other two reasons. . . 1) Not a lot of people know what the soldiers go through during war, and just assume, but when reading this book you really get a sence of what happened.
2)I think he wanted to come to closure with himself and what he went through. Like tie up all the loose ends.
Youre definitely correct. he needed to be able to have closure after the war, and he did so thru putting others in his position and educating them on the subject. another reason may be that its the only thing he knows bc it was such a big part of his life, so it just works its way into his writing, even if its not necessarily his aim.
