A thought occured to me and I thought it might be safer not to post to one of my Harry Potter communities...even though I know lots of fans can get to my journal. Well, who cares I guess. I hope they read it

Awesome rant, lol. I've always wondered that myself!star_keeperJuly 11 2004, 20:41:18 UTC
Good point. I'm always telling my HP friends "There are other wonderful books out there!" lol. I love The Lord of the Rings books, of course, but I'm also a huge Nicolas Sparks fan. He wrote The Notebook, Message in the Bottle, A Walk to Remember, just to name a few. They've been made into movies, so those titles probably sound familiar. The books are even more touching I assure you. Peace Like a River by Lief Enger is an amazing book! So the answer is, I love lots of books. I can see where you stand on the question though. I often worry that lots of HP fans don't read enough of other literature. They stop there. It's a shame if they do. They're great books, but there's so much out there. Wonderful worlds to get lost in.
I'll read anything I can get my hands on. My favorite book of all time is War and Peace>. I just finished The Devil Wears Prada. I also love the Bridget Jones series, anything by Tolstoy, early Dickens, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I thought that the Lord of the Rings books were okay.
I haven't had time to do much pleasure reading, though. College will do that to you. I can quote textbooks just as much as I can Harry Potter, though.
I promise, we're not all crazy fanatics who live and breathe the gospel of JKR. :)
I read a ton of other books. My favorite ones to read are ones that have some mystery or suspense. I've read most of the "Cat Who" series like "The Cat Who Saw Red" or "The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern". I also love to read poems and short stories written by Edgar Allen Poe. His stuff is weird, but i really enjoy it. I'll pretty much read anything.
I was really enjoying the His Dark Materials trilogy, but I got to the third one and I lost interest. I didn't get very far into it, though. Is it worth hanging in there for?
