Ok, so I got a call from my mom telling me that internet explorer is giving her an error message. I figured it was a webpage issue but when I called it seems that internet explorer is unable to open. When she tries she gets a message saying something to the effect of "we're sorry but internet explorer has encountered and error and needs to close ( Read more... )

She'll have to install a different browser. Internet Explorers new update is not compatible with the windows software. How do I know, you may ask? I've heard this from the boyfriend, and how he was having the same issues with his IE and his mother also. He says it's nothing that can be fixed, and that IE has to fix it themselves. But, until that actually happens, it will continue to give that error message.

I'd suggest downloading Firefox. According to Chris, it's the safest for it's firewalls any ways.

Ironically I had her do that tonight and the same issue came up when she tried to run it after it installed. :(

Any other ideas?

P.S. Miss you!

There's a lot more information anyone would need before being able to help, hon. Is she able to receive and send email? Meaning, is she SURE she's connected to the Internet?

Does she have a software firewall installed?

Has she upgraded Windows recently?

Has anything else recently changed?

she's connected cause she could get on through AOL broadband. I tried to have her do a windows update and it wouldn't let her connect. I am not sure about the firewall to be honest.

What makes me thinks it's a computer issue rather then an internet issue is the fact that she can get online and send and receive email fine from her laptop that is connected wireless-ly. And she can get onto AOL on the desktop but just not open another browser.

**shrugs**

any advice is really appreciated I've told her for now just to work primarily on the laptop because I fear it's a bug or virus.
