Amazing! Great idea for a post. I first fell in love with silent films when I did an essay on the early days of German Expressionism (hello, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari). I wound up renting Chaplin films and other assorted classics.

Thanks! I haven't seen a lot of foreign silents- but then again there are so many silents I haven't seen yet!

This is a fabulous picspam! City Lights! Metropolis! Phantom of the Opera! I completely agree about the awesomeness of Harold Lloyd & Buster Keaton. I'm also rather fond of The Mark of Zorro with Douglas Fairbanks. :-D

WONDERFUL! I love silent film stars! They are still stars and better than the "stars" we have today!

Gorgeous picspam. I'm a huge fan of silent films. The actors had such interesting looks back then. Like Gloria Swanson said in Sunset Blvd, "We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!"

Great job.

I agree that they all had interesting looks- and then into the "talkie" era, they always seemed to have such distinct voices as well

Thanks so much for commenting! :)

Great spam! I love silent films as well. I never thought I would get into them but Gloria Swanson changed my mind! Buster is my favorite male actor and Gloria my fav female. I like everything you posted!
