A/N; Happy 4th of July!!!!!!!!!!

Across the sky was a burst of color, painting the sky the mark of independence. The night was chilly, as it always was in July. People flocked the ground, sitting on blankets and lawn chairs celebrating the day their country became its own. In the mist of it all was Jenny Humphrey. She was seated on a blanket towards the far end of the field, the bright colors shattering across her face, lighting up her whole world. It was a Humphrey family tradition to watch the fireworks from the park near the loft, but this year was different. Her father, Rufus was at a party with Lily in the Upper East Side and Dan was spending his last days of the summer hanging out with some friend of his. Which left Jenny all alone to carry out the forgotten Humphrey family tradition.

Jenny could see that her world was changing now, it all starting with the simplest of things. She was barely spending nights in her own room, eating breakfast in her own apartment, and she sure and hell wasn't eating her fathers homemade pancakes and waffles. It had all been replaced with fancy sheets, elegant breakfast bar, and the work of a professional chief.

She was no doubt happy for her father and she loved Lily very much, but the idea of giving up her old family traditions made Jenny's heart sink. She'd spent her entire life with these traditions and there were all being thrown away because her father decided to change their address.

“Jenny?”. A voice in the distant asked from somewhere behind her. Looking in the direction of the voice, Jenny saw Nate Archibald coming her way, a smile on his face.

“Nate?", Jenny smiled. “I thought you were in Europe with Vanessa”.

He sat next to her on the blanket. His hair was longer than the last time she'd seen him, covering the top half of his head. “I thought I'd come back for the holiday, and I remembered what you said about the fireworks”.

A blush heated her cheeks, thinking about the last time she'd told Nate about the Humphrey family tradition. “I told you that a long time a go, though, and you still remembered”.

“Of course I remembered! You said it was one of your favorite traditions”, Nate smiled, pushing his newly long hair away from his face.

“Well, at least someone remembered”, Jenny shrugged, wishing Dan and Rufus was there with her.

“I wouldn't be so sure about that”. He pointed to the entrance way of the park. Looking over her shoulder, Jenny saw Dan, Rufus, Lily, Serena, and Eric coming her way, blankets in hand. Smiling to herself, Jenny stood greeting her newly emerged family.

“What are you all doing here?”, she asked, amazed.

“You don’t think we'd forget a Humphrey family tradition do you?”, Rufus smiled, pulling Jenny into a tight bear hug.

“Actually, Nate reminded us”, Dan admitted, tossing the blanket he was holding onto the ground next to Jenny's. She looked over at Nate, a smile on her face. She mouthed a soft “thank you” to him.

“I am so sorry I ruined the tradition, Jenny”, Lily apologized, smoothing down the back of jenny's hair, before hugging her new daughter.

“It's alright”, Jenny assured. She was happy to see her family, even if they were two hours late. “You're here now and that's all that matters”.

“You're right”, Rufus agreed, clapping his hands together. “Let's spread out the blankets and watch the magic”.

Jenny smiled happily as she helped her family lay out all the blankets and food they'd brought from the party. Feeling content, Jenny watched the sky change colors, her family surrounding her, and all thanks to Nate Archibald.
