"What kind of music do you usually have here?"
"Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western." (The Blues Brothers)

So that utterly perturbing rally Texas Governor Rick Perry organized last Saturday? It has come to my attention that it was totally non-denominational! They had all kinds down there, they just were getting everyone together in ( Read more... )

I still can't believe this guy is my Governor. He better damn well never be President.

*headshake* It's always interesting to look at the elected officials for Texas and think 'Wow, they really are from my state.' And then headdesk in despair....

At least I can vote next year... and Perry can't run for Governor again, I believe. So there's something.

The Catholics cut out the Apocrypha

Maybe I'm confused - don't (most) Catholics have the Apocrypha in their bible, which protestant denominations don't?

Orthodox may not include all the books. Can't recall, things get a bit weird when you have a millennia long argument about one word of doctrine.

Roman rite include all the books. Protestants sometimes take them out, sometimes don't.

Argh, I always get that part backwards! My parents had two Bibles when I was growing up (one had the Apocrypha as Protestants call it and the other didn't) but neither was labelled as being affiliated with any denomination, so I always have to triple check that I'm remember who keeps those books and who doesn't... sorry!

Item #1 leaves out the Catholics--not because of the (Protestant-named) Apocrypha, which our Bibles have and Gov. Perry's presumably doesn't, but because we don't hold that the Bible is the ONLY infallible, authoritative Word of God.

Ah, I get that now. I was thinking of Word of God as in a literal text, although it seems (from this non-Catholic's possibly flawed point of view) that the role of the Church is to provide continual revelations of God's Word to humanity and/or its membership?
