Psychology:
Dino is rather interesting. He is a rather cheerful, pleasant, person who had a tendency to act like a dork. But at the same time he is the boss of the third most powerful Mafia family and has the undying loyalty of all his men.
The cheerful face that Dino shows is his real one. He never wanted to be a Mafia boss and was force into it by his Grandfather. What changed his mind was him seeing that the men in the Cavallone family were looking to him for guidance and he had better learn to become a leader for their sakes.
Dino is much less ruthless than most Mafia bosses. When he was ordered to kill Gokudera if the younger man choose to go to Italy with him instead of staying with Tsuna, he secretly made plans to help Gokudera escape if he came to the airport, even though it meant going against the most powerful Mafia family, the Vongola. He also sent his men into the building to interfere with Yamamoto’s fight and save his life if things called for it. He is ranked as the boss who is kindest to those on his turf in the Mafia.
But Dino is also clever and willing to kill without remorse if there is no other way. He took the failing Cavallone family and turned it into the third most powerful family in the space of a few years. He never tells his men to do anything that he wouldn’t be willing to do himself, which is part of what makes his men so loyal to him.
As a child Dino was very clumsy and accident prone. This disappeared when he became the Cavallone boss…but only as long as one of his men is present. If they leave him alone his clumsiness returns, and his formidable fighting ability disappears entirely. He has to be aware of his men’s absence though, because he only seems to become clumsy once his mind has realized that they are gone.
Dino makes excuses for his clumsiness but that’s because he feels that he must uphold the Cavallone image. He is well aware of what is happening and gets very embarrassed about it.
When he is truly pressed and his life is in danger, Dino will forget that he is suppose to be clumsy without his men around and will be able to fight normally.
Dino was an only child but secretly longed to have siblings, this is why he insists on calling Tsuna his ‘cute adoptive brother’ and was very happy when Fuuta said that because he was Tsuna’s big brother, he was his as well.
General Skills/Abilities:
Dino can be clever when he puts his mind to things and has good instincts. He is formidable whip fighter when his men are around, and he can use a gun fairly well. Due to the nature of his profession his is also a good hand and knife fighter.
General Weaknesses:
His sheer clumsiness. Without his men he has been known to trip over his own feet, and fall down stairs with surprising regularity. When Dino tires to fight when he’s being clumsy it’s actually safer to be the person he’s trying to attack. In the past it’s been his allies that he’s manage to hit with his whip…even though they are usually standing behind him.
History:
Born into the Cavallone family, Dino was declared the heir to the family by his Grandfather when he was thirteen. But Dino did not want to be the heir, he did not care about the mafia at all. So his grandfather had Reborn, a hitman for the powerful Vongola family and a member of the cursed Arcobaleno brought in.
Reborn, although harsh and out right strange at times, did his best to help Dino gain confidence. He even followed his young charge when Dino was sent to a special school that had been built for the purpose of training children of high ranking Mafia families. Dino grew and eventually reached a point in time where, separated from his men, he was forced to fight. He won, earning a whip and his pet sponge snapping turtle Enzio from Reborn.
After his graduation Dino took over the family and manages to rebuild it’s failing finances, eventually leading it to become the third most powerful family. Through out the years Reborn had kept in contact with his student, so Dino quickly learned when Reborn had been assigned to another mafia boss heir, this time for the Vongola family. Wonder what he as like Dino decided to head to Japan.
Upon meeting Tsuna Dino discovered that, just like Reborn had told him, Tsuna was much like his younger self. Seeing that, Dino decided to help Tsuna and declared the teenager his ’adoptive younger brother’.
After a few months Dino was surprised to learn that there was disagreement in the Vongola family. A few members did not think that Tsuna should be the heir, instead the supported Xanxus, the son of the current Vongola boss and leader of the Varia assassination squad. Reborn called Dino to inform him that there was going to be a fight involving the rings that were given to the core members of the Vongola family, the Vongola rings. Whoever won would be named the heir. Both Xanxus and Tsuna were going to have teams fighting with them, and the matches would be one on one. Reborn wanted Dino to train one of the people he had chosen to support Tsuna, Hibari Kyoya. Dino agreed, and went to Japan to help. He arrived in time to stop Serbi Squalo, a member of the Varia and an old schoolmate of Dino’s, from attacking Tsuna.
Hibari refused to accept Dino’s help at first. Only after a battle that lasted two days was Dino able to convice the younger man that he had something to teach him. They left on a training trip. They return after the matches had started. The next match is Yamamoto VS Squalo. Dino secretly sends some of his men into the building so they’ll be able to save Yamamoto’s life if things get ugly. They end up saving Squalo’s life instead.
Squalo is the one who reveals that Xanxus is only the adoptive son of the Vongola boss, so he is not eligible to become the next boss since he doesn’t have Vongola blood. Tsuna and his friends eventually won the battles and Tsuna was declared the official heir.
As a congratulations gift, Dino invited Tsuna and those who had taken part in the ring battles to Italy.

Modern day Rome. Dino lives in a very expensive mansion at the edge of the city.
