Wow...

Ganked from kovucougar:

This quadruped robot, financed by the Pentagon, is nothing short of incredible in its simulation of organic locomotion. In an example of equestrian thinking, however, my first thought at reading about the 340 pound payload capability was "that would be awesome to ride." :)

Does look rather impressive, doesn't it? That video is from a couple of years back: no doubt the technology has improved even more since.

Part of me wonders if you could get two or more of them and arange to race them over obstacle-courses....

It's handling on ice and being kicked is pretty awesome. I can't help but think that it would do better with rocks and snow if they gave it bigger "feet" to distribute it's weight and give it more traction though. "Bambi on ice" is much better than "fall over and flail helplessly" but it's not nearly as good as "Wolf on ice"

Good point. I've seen other videos of it where it did have bigger feet - I think they are still experimenting with the best all-round style of foot.

I imagine it's a good candidate for a fuel cell when it gets into production.
