It is great seeing you posting art again. Something I'd suggest is "Artrage." Yeah, it is something a Kiwi friend of mine made, but it is a very cool program, especially for folks who are more used to doing their own art not on a computer. It isn't very expensive (I think $20 for Windows and Mac) but may be worth checking out.
Lucky for me I got a small bonus check from work that made it where I could spend $320 for the program. The cool thing about it is that I can install it on a newer computer in the future. My desk top is an old mac mini 1.6 dual core with only two gigs. It struggles with the program a little bit so I'm using my laptop which is a bit faster. My goal is to get a quad core with something that can support two monitors. I found that it's easier doing work on paintings with two screams.
Basically it acts like a real paint mixing system, letting you blend colors like you would with traditional paints and can act like traditional canvas if you want it to. I'm not an artist. I'd check out their web site (http://www.artrage.com/) and check it out. I played with it years ago and it seemed very simple to use, but pretty powerful if you wanted to really go to town.
