Went to church today

May 05, 2005 00:49

I went to church today with Jamie, Patty and Jason...I felt so out of place. I think the main reason people go to church isnt for the reasons people should go...when i was there, all i saw were little teenie bopper girls trying to pick up on dudes. but hey, to each their own right? Iv'e come to realize lately that all people are different and that ( Read more... )

wow, it seems like your views really have changed. i cant say that i agree with you but to each his own. i am, however finding it a little difficult to understand what your trying to say exactly. mind rephrasing it a little? i dont see how god could just be energy, it seems like he would have to so much more. ever heard of Pascal, Anselm, or Aquinas. they are these ancient philosophers that have soem pretty interesting arguments on god.

god = energy is simple. Its not energy like nuclear energy. Its energy that keeps everything going. Think of it, if you had no energy, you wouldnt move and die. If a tree didnt have energy, it wouldnt grow. Thats the simplest way to phrase it. Its not that god isnt all good and all powerful because he (he because man has to differentiate between man and women) keeps everything going. He is with the earth rotating, the universe moving. He is what keeps everything going. The Bible even depicts him as that. Its man who had to put our image on what the bible was saying. The Bible doesnt depict that god is a man up in the clouds look at at us. The bible depicts it as the creator, never to be made or destroyed, and that which keeps the universe moving. Pharaphrases Genesis, cant tell which part cuz i dont quite remember. All in all, if you bring everything to the basics and forget about all the heaven/hell, angels, jesus and you have nothing, you have eliminated mans perceptions on how the bible should be taken. The first clue brian, if ( ... )

that last uypdate i had sounded like i was bashing christians. When i read through it again, i saw how it must have sounded but i didnt mean it that way. I still consider myself christian but i think ive actually realized what Jesus was trying to say. Do what he did and you shall reach heaven (heaven being inner-peace). The bible tells of heaven and hell being on earth. The only way it could be on earth would be if it was inside ourselves (sin and righteousness). To be consumed with sin is being in hell, and to live in righteousness is to be in heaven. Another way to phrase it in a more known and understandable way is karma...

so let me get this straight... god is energy. he isnt he, he isnt she, he isnt man, he isnt woman, he isnt any creature or anything, hes everything. he is the energy that motivates all movementm whether that movement is life itself or actually movement. is that right ( ... )

OBJECTIONS THAT COULD BE MADE:
() ok there are a few misguided objections and a couple good ones. im not really gonna go into the good ones unless you ask, cause like i said before, they disagree with your own beliefs.

1) the pleasure in life of not believing is way more then 20.

a) the amount you place on it is not important, the fact is that it is a finite amount and nomatter how large the finite amount is, it is still nothing compared to infinite pain.

2) the percentages are wrong!

a) once again it doesnt matter. infinite joy, nomatter how small a chance is still worth betting on. (think megabucks but a whole lot better).

P.S.
ok well that was a bunch of ideas and im sorry if they arnt very clear, i didnt really take all that much time sorting through them and so they might have come out wrong. if anything is confusing let me know and ill try to explain it better.

well done brian. well done. Now, for my rebuttle lol...i never said the existence of god is false because there is no way possible to believe that. The universe is soooo massive and your right, there has to be an ultimate being of some sort to create this massive, complex universe. What im saying is that why does our view on god have to be so limited to one religion? First off, how can religion come from the bible when the bible never even uses the word religion. That word is not to be found. The word that it does use is, spiritual. So the idea of a relgion based around the bible is a falsehood of man. And as for your equation of -20 and 20, you have to factor in the thousands of other religions that exist. Granted, even the smallest chance is worth taking but if that was how you believed, wouldnt you take into account the Kuran or the Tao te Ching? Granted they all lead into one god, and maybe its not that you choose a religion but the fact that you believe because almost every religion on this planet does lead back to the original ( ... )

ok i really only have one last thing to say and im gonna try and keep it short. and yeah you nailed the biggest flaw in the infinite thing... if there are many gods then the calculations are flawed. there are counter arguments to this too but it doesnt really matter ( ... )
