Update on Kal

May 03, 2010 11:43

Just heard from Dr. Simms... Kal goes in tomorrow at 7am, they will sedate him and check the tendon on his right hip... if it has not detached then he can go to an orthepedic specialist for the surgery. If it has detached then he is not a candidate for surgery and his future is not good.

Will keep those good thoughts going...

Is this 'typical' for Kal's breed? It seems that so many of the animals bred for certain characteristics suffer from ailments that the breeding can cause. Sure not fair to the poor animals!

The Vet told us the only way Kal would have this disease is through genetics. Large breed dogs do often develop hip problems, Bailey had arthritis in her back and her hips... but Hip Dysplasia in a dog this young comes from breeding a dog who is a carrier of the gene. It's just sad!!
