So this relationship thing is all ready starting to get crazy. See, while it's nice that we work together and can see each other often... it also means that the office we work in can also heckle. I work in an office of 200 +/- people and they all know us, so it kind of thrusts us into the light when people find out we're dating, especially now that

You should have expected this. There are reasons why they say that co-worker relationships are not for the best. The general rule of thumb is to either not have them or to keep quiet about it.You both have already mis-stepped. And so early too. You should have had the foresight to wait at least awhile.
You should have her talk to her friend about her out of line comments. If she isn't willing, then you know where things stand.
Oh yes, if it doesn't bother her as much as it bothers you..a big red warning flag should be flying in that head of yours.

You're right. Christina and I talked about it tonight. We're going to start keeping things very low-key at work from now on.

I did overreact, I think. I went back and apologized later to Catherine and Christina both.

Ok, good. It was a bit of overreacting.

Now, I'm going to give you some advice: Sit down with Christina now and draw up two things

1. What do you say when asked about the relationship (ie 'Is she your girlfriend?')
2. How exactly you each are going to react to further heckling. As already said, you are going to have this. You are going to have this happen to you (it bears repeating ~_^)

I'm not saying don't go for this. As I told you privately this is a nice change for you :). What I am saying is to expect some extra mines in the battlefield of love. Best wishes, both of you.

Oh you sooooooo would not get along with all the heckling at my workplace. You can't date anyone there or EVERYONE knows about it.
