I don't know about the loopy shit, but I think a lot of people gravitate towards the advice they wanted to hear - for example in the case of the sex question, I don't think she wanted to deal with the fact that her relationship may be straight-up unworkable or that she may need to make some extreme changes to have a relationship that is both satisfying and healthy.
So she picked the one that was the easiest but the unhealthiest in the long run - what she was probably going to do anyway. A lot of people aren't looking for sincere advice or answers, they're looking for affirmation.
So my new plan is to respond to all requests for advice with "Give me a blow-job." It'll probably get as much positive feedback as my sincere advice, and I'll also get a few BJs out of the deal.
First, people are lazy. Second, people like to believe their problems are different, thereby making them "special". So a different solution to the problem is more appealing than, like, real solutions that involve real work.
I am, of course, a sociopath, so my ideals of humanity might be skewed a bit.
