In the past six months or so I've been working my way through the collected works of Sinclair Lewis. Other than my FIL was a fan of Aerosmith, I can't really say why I started. That's a damn shame... That said, almost every 12 step program uses a 'higher power' that typically is described as 'God.' If that's how they met out treatment, you can't really blame them. I also suspect that there is no way any of the dudes running the place would have the gall to keep a person there against their will.

Tolerable. Still living in DC, the boys are growing up (Oliver is two inches taller than I am). I'm running a research group now which is a radical departure from actually doing the research.

I was recently reading "Dodsworth," yet another Sinclair Lewis book (tragically, I'm pretty sure it's last one I hadn't read). The main character takes a trip to Europe in the 1920's... His depictions of Germany at that time, and the provincial American's reaction to it are truly rich (at one point they go into a drag-bar in Berlin...). I was thinking of you and your parents, and wondering if the reality ever really lived up to the hype.

How's by you? Still living in Boston?

Not bad. Yes, still on Boston. Half an hour south of, to be exact. We actually went to Germany for a year from 2010-2011, but it didn't work out. Running a family there was hard. So we came back ( ... )
