“What does ‘Kato Shigeaki’ make you think of?”

In October 2001, as part of the TV variety show "Japan☆Walker", Domoto Koichi of Kinki Kids produced a new Johnny's Junior unit called "J-Support". Koyama Keiichiro was elected leader of the group, while Kato Shigeaki was chosen as the sub-leader. Later the name of this unit was changed, taking the first initial of each member's last name, to become K.K.Kity.
In November 2003, Koyama and Shigeaki were placed in a 9-member temporary group called NEWS, created as the image characters for the Volley Ball World Cup. However, NEWS became permanent and officially debuted in May 2004. Over the course of the next few years, NEWS gradually lost members until there were only six of them left, Koyama and Shigeaki being two of them. NEWS spent most of 2006 on hiatus, finally redebuting in 2007 as an official six member group.
While a lot of things have changed over the years since the formation of J-Support, one thing that has remained intact is Koyama and Shige's friendship.
And their sparkly ghei tendancies.

J-webs
Koyama and Shige's J-webs are a good place to start when you're looking for KoyaShige love. Whether they're complimenting or insulting each other, they mention one another all the time.
They do exiciting things like set up their cats (Koyama's real one and Shige's imaginary one) on gay cat dates. Shige especially likes to expose Koyama's intellectual failures while Koyama really just likes to spread the love. Of course, Shige also has to occasionally admit that he also loves Koyama (before going right back to mocking his failures).
They also discuss things with and leave messages for each other over their J-webs. About important topics such as video games. Frequently. There are other times where Koyama (and the others) like to bully Shige, but Koyama always makes it up to him quickly afterwards. Shige just continues to be mean.
They also go on really gay trips to Hawaii where "Shige gets stung against amazing odds", and go on dinner dates together and shopping dates where Koyama is weak to Shige's opinion. They also have 'friendship crises' which make Shige write really long entries to complain, and have Koyama apologizing profusely and professing his love in Korean to make it up to him.
Koyama also complains about how he spoils Shige. However since Shige keeps on bringing up Koyama's failures and bizarre beahaviours in every other entry, he's probably earned a bit of complaining room. Especially since most of his entries are filled with love and sometimes a bit of gay. Particularly when it's Shige's birthday.
Their J-webs are basically just a big documentary of Koyama's idiocy and their numerous outings as well as sleep overs various fishy moments.
But above all, they're evidence that Koyama and Shige are just adorably close and couldn't be better friends if they tried.

Koyama: I'm often seen as a big brother type character. But in reality, I'm the only younger brother of one big sister, and I also get spoilt by Shige. I'm by no means the type of person who's good at caring for others.
I was really spoilt by Shige recently as well. He said, "Let's go on a trip!" and although he invited me along, I said, "That sounds good, that sounds good! But you make all the plans and stuff, okay?" and that was okay. Well, I always leave everything up to him, so Shige might be used to it by now too.
When we're hanging out and wondering, "What should we do next?" I usually get Shige to decide, and he always lets me tag along. That's the usual me; flexible and not very organized. And a little selfish. I'll be like, "Ehhh? Nooo, I don't want to do that, that's too much trouble." (Laughter)

Shige: Koyama and I have the same sort of intuition. A long time ago, when we were back dancing for Kinki Kids on Music Station, something happened between us that we still call a miracle, even now! That day, just before the actual performance, the choreography was changed, but during the real thing, I accidentally did the old choreography. And then when I checked the VTR afterwards, Koyama had made the same mistake as I had! During that moment, Koyama and I were the only Jrs. shown on the camera, which means that none of the viewers would’ve realized we’d made a mistake.
But I’m not as dumb as he is. Recently when I said to him, “Don’t act like a panda trying to draw an audience,” he replied, “Why? Because I’m wearing black?” and didn’t get what I was saying. A panda isn’t even totally black. Koyama managed to be doubly disappointing.

Shige: I was standing next to him, and suddenly Koyama started to fall over, and I was like, "Watch out!" and ended up embracing Koyama in the middle of the train.

Shige: I’d invite him to a southern island. The Maldives, Bora Bora Island, Miyako-jima. I want to take him somewhere really beautiful. If I do it, it’ll be on a really special day. I’d cover his eyes, put headphones in his ears, and get him on a plane. And before hand, I’d write ‘Happy birthday’ or ‘Happy wedding’ on the beach in seashells. But from then on, it’d all fall apart. I’d throw cake at him, throw him in the ocean, and have a rough celebration.

On the very last night…
I think there are a lot of people who already know this, but I, Kato Shigeaki, went to New York with Koyama Keiichiro.
I had some free time, so I thought I’d go overseas and bought a ticket to New York. But by coincidence, Koyama was also thinking about going as well, so we ended up going together. What kind of miracle is this? I already had a bad feeling… Anyway, because we’d decided to stay for five nights and seven days at the last minute, we couldn’t get a double room, and the only room that was left was one that only had a king size bed. As you’d expect, it was very awkward.
We made a wall of pillows in the middle of the bed and both slept on the very edges, but despite that, when I woke up on the third night, we were sleeping with our legs crossed over each other. One the fourth night, when Koyama was half asleep he put his left hand on top of my right.
It was slowly moving from the bottom of our bodies to the top. On the fifth and last night, I can’t say that we slept as far apart as usual.

Shige: A long time ago, when Koyama and I were doing back dancing for Kinki Kids, the choreography was changed just before the real performance. But during the actual thing, I acidentally ended up doing the old choreography, and Koyama also did the same thing!
There were a lot of other Jrs. dancing, but at that moment, only Koyama and I were filmed, and so it ended up looking like we hadn't messed up.
That day when both of our mistakes covered the other's up... It felt like fate, and I thought about Koyama, "From now on, he and I will probably be together for the rest of our lives."
Koyama: Shige is a friend who, for the past 8 years, has been aiming for the same thing as me, and has worked hard together with me. If I lived a normal life, I don't think I would've been able to meet a person like him.
To me, he's gone beyond being a friend and is now more like family.
For example, even if the rest of the world hated me, I'm confident that Shige would be the only one who never would. And even if Shige hated me, I could never hate him!
It's that kind of friendship.

"Kei-chan, where is the next place you'd like to go on a trip?"
Koyama: I want to go to a place where I could see Auroras! Because being able to see something you normally couldn't is the best thing about going on a trip! It would change the way that I perceive things now if I had a magical experience like that. And because I'd want to share that kind of deep emotion with someone, of course I'd take Shige with me.
