I considered explaining why, especially following the whole "who decided that random number??" discussion that ensued. Sometimes you just gotta apply judgment and I replied, "I dunno, it doesn't matter, POINT IS they've been chopped off the bottom."

Yeah, that's a good call. Unless people have an innate curiosity about such things (and I have learned that most people do not have this curiosity) then you'll usually just get a wierd look. At least that's the way it happens with me usually :).
